- ikbrooks, on 04/25/2008, -1/+9We still are failing to understand that Republican is a party. That is all it is! Historically, They were on the right side of many issues but true to nature they have done what all creatures do when left on their own. A political party does not stand on principle. They may for a time get it right and do the right thing but in the end the finger in the wind will always win out and determine which way the party will go.
Conservatives have been without a home for quite some time now and by default we have been left to hold our nose and vote for the Republican nominee. This November will be the toughest for us in a long time having to vote for Mcswill. Conservatives are not respected or appreciated within the party. Republicans, the blue bloods, do not take a moral stand on anything. that is why it is time for us to take the party back and do what Reagan did. He did not leave the party for another party like Teddy did with the Bull Moose. He stayed in there and fought! And he won and the world was better for it. That time is coming you all and once again the world will be better for it.- mejaredme, on 04/25/2008, -1/+5I agree 100%! Amen....
- CarolMarie40DFL, on 04/25/2008, -1/+7It's time that the "silent" majority stood up and ROARED!
- chicofaraby, on 04/25/2008, -2/+3"take the party back and do what Reagan did"
Bush did that. De-regulation and tax cuts for the rich just like Reagan. The result? Financial meltdown like the Savings and Loan swindles and recession.
Just like Reagan.- ikbrooks, on 05/01/2008, -1/+2Put down the pipe. The S&L crisis was caused by tax cuts? How about they made bad business decisions just like all that sub-prime garbage. When you buy more than you can afford eventually it is going to catch up with you. When the govt allows you to keep more of your own money it allows you to spend more, save more, hire more people etc... All these things stimulate the economy. The govt does not create wealth. Private enterprise is what creates wealth. The govt stifles growth and creativity. They are not the saviors you think they are. Nice try!
- hillpehle, on 04/25/2008, -1/+6I think it will be a battle in every race. The largest hope I hold to is that the American People will see through the Smoke and Mirrors and find the truth the Democrat's are masking. Many who follow Obama are caught in the "Pied Piper" spell created by a very talented speaker and once they filter out the fluff, the purely Socialist agenda will disappoint them. Once this happens, the effect will snowball down the ladder as they realize the "Agenda" runs deep in that party.
It will be a fight because too many people believe in the Utopian dream they talk about. And this fantasy is NOT something they can deliver. In fact, the attempt they will make to bring this fantasy to life will cause unthinkable damage to this Nation.
Do the Republicans have a chance? I say yes, a very big yes. - drachemorder, on 04/25/2008, -0/+5One thing we must remember is that these are all local races and will be defined by the local politics. For example, there is a congressional Republican seat open in Roger Wicker's former district in Mississippi. There is no way a liberal will win this seat, Republican or Democrat; yet the Democratic candidate is ahead in the race at the moment. This is so because he's conservative, and there's really very little difference on the issues between him and his opponent. Even if he wins he certainly isn't going to vote with the national Democratic party on hot-button issues. So while the party makeup of the House might shift, I rather doubt that the ideological makeup will. Even when the Republicans had the majority the ideological makup of Congress still leaned left; there were more liberal Republicans than conservative Democrats.
