- dBass, on 05/06/2008, -15/+201Can we please stop talking to people who disagree with us, and simply "obliterate" them!
{sarcasm}- HillerMylife, on 07/24/2008, -19/+37I'm starting a movement against sarcasm tags (MAST). If you can't detect written sarcasm, then you're really a regular genius.
- akilleen, on 05/06/2008, -0/+31I would agree with you, except there are people that would actually say something like that unfortunately, this being the internet and all.
- humperdeath, on 05/06/2008, -2/+3Or even the other internets.
- ToadLeg, on 05/06/2008, -3/+13you forgot the /sarcasm tag.
/sarcasm- Pilot85, on 05/06/2008, -2/+6I don't know what to do. digg or bury?
- jrizzo, on 05/06/2008, -1/+12To Digg, or not to Digg...
- trevorh, on 05/06/2008, -2/+11That is the question.

and the thousand natural buries that spam is heir to;
'tis a consummation devoutly to be wished
- Pilot85, on 05/06/2008, -2/+6I don't know what to do. digg or bury?
- midejitsu, on 05/06/2008, -0/+8trappleton, that is a really good idea. No sarcasm tags? Genius. The only thing smarter is trying for written sarcasm in the first place.
- dudefather, on 05/06/2008, -4/+1sarcasm tags are awesome
{not sarcasm....YEAH RIGHT}- letitbleed62, on 05/06/2008, -0/+7*head explodes*
- dissurmom, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1Or at least not informed.
- dafragsta, on 05/06/2008, -3/+10No, by all means, you are right. Sarcasm, an emote that involves vocal intonation and an onomatopoeia or two to show exasperation is TOTALLY easy to convey in written form. Pssh!
While I get that anything that is repeated on the internet gets you points when you rebel against the trend, (because you are so anti-conformist) it's just part of internet culture. On the internet, jokes and trends get ran into the ground and the only thing more ran into the ground is the bitching that goes on about it.- HillerMylife, on 07/24/2008, -0/+9You're a stellar writer. For the life of me, I can't figure out why you have so much trouble with written sarcasm.
- IllBeBack, on 05/06/2008, -0/+5Well, congratulations on your unique ability to always detect sarcasm in written form. Many others are simply not as blessed as you are.
/sarcasm - norcalscan, on 05/06/2008, -0/+3Right, you go to ex-boss and explain that those emails I had written were NOT accusing anybody or making fun of anybody or meant to hurt anybody's feelings. I wish sarcasm could be written, but it requires the vocal inflection. I also wish people weren't pansies and a little email that "could" be construed differently wasn't taken so fking seriously.
- bmarc, on 05/06/2008, -0/+3Damn these misleading titles... especially when its in the top ten and you can't see the description.
- identitymatrix, on 05/06/2008, -0/+5I'm starting a movement against phones. Don't you hate how people everywhere are always talking loudly on their cell phones? Join Citizens Rage Against Phones (CRAP) today.
- tiraid, on 05/06/2008, -0/+3Even if you do consider yourself smart enough to detect sarcasm, you'll never see it again without sarcasm tags because all the idiots before you already buried it.
- Volatile314, on 05/06/2008, -1/+3{sarcasm}
{sarcasm} - D4r7h3v1l, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2Of COURSE I'm being sarcastic.

- akilleen, on 05/06/2008, -0/+31I would agree with you, except there are people that would actually say something like that unfortunately, this being the internet and all.
- gplpark92, on 05/06/2008, -4/+2Trappleton's only against your statement because he's not being sarcastic...
:O - halleyscomet, on 05/06/2008, -3/+6George W, is that you???
- Jareth86, on 05/06/2008, -10/+2Can we please stop using the sarcasm tags? Imagine if someone did this in real life whenever they talked; you'd want to ***** punch them!
- gplpark92, on 05/06/2008, -1/+7Diggers suck at IRL, whatdya expect?
- IllBeBack, on 05/06/2008, -1/+7The point is that you don't have to point sarcasm out in real life because it is conveyed in the way that you say something and not in the actual words themselves. Think about it for more than a few seconds and even a smart monkey such as yourself should be able to come to the same conclusion.
- CCoe, on 05/06/2008, -2/+4You're absolutely right, but the assholery was somewhat unnecessary.
- mattbdavis, on 05/07/2008, -2/+1I agree with the comment, not the sarcasm.
- HillerMylife, on 07/24/2008, -19/+37I'm starting a movement against sarcasm tags (MAST). If you can't detect written sarcasm, then you're really a regular genius.
- NoDrama, on 05/06/2008, -16/+225An amazing and influential statesman - Obama will be a force internationally even if he isn't elected President, but it's starting to look like the world at large would judge us fools to miss the chance to put him into the Oval Office sooner rather than later.
- aebo06, on 05/06/2008, -0/+23Even without me being an Obama supporter, I still believe that your argument is valid, and I am glad to see that some Obama supporters will still be happy people, no matter what the outcome.
- IslandDog, on 05/06/2008, -31/+3I don't care about the "world" judging us.
- Wesside, on 05/06/2008, -3/+24You should care about the world judging you, because if you piss us off enough, your country will fail. Other countries will stop buying and selling goods from/to you, especially with the way the US economy is going.
- aadyss, on 05/08/2008, -0/+0The Dem's eliminating NAFTA would reduce trade enough for all of us. That would be quite enough of a reduction in trade with the complements of the Democratic Party.
- EarlOfLade, on 05/06/2008, -1/+25I'd like you to repeat that comment when you no longer have food on your table nor gas in your car and you have to pay 4 dollar for a Euro.
But go ahead, be an ostrich! - blackbeardtron, on 05/06/2008, -0/+12Idiot.
- aadyss, on 05/06/2008, -6/+0Which country or countries should be on the 'to please first' agenda. China, Myanmar, Cuba, Russia, Iran, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Somalia or perhaps Venezuela. Do we chose by race, color or creed? Perhaps we should chose only white Europeans or only Muslim countries. My choice is the lovely nation of Myanmar where we should make every effort to please Yangon. After all, They do need aid after the recent storms, do they not?
- Wesside, on 05/06/2008, -3/+24You should care about the world judging you, because if you piss us off enough, your country will fail. Other countries will stop buying and selling goods from/to you, especially with the way the US economy is going.
- 533n, on 05/06/2008, -5/+19I honestly think that Obama could reverse the worlds opinion of America over night. Over the past 10 years I have grown to hate the American government, but if he were elected I am certain that would change.
- aadyss, on 05/06/2008, -13/+1Well, I certainly want to please you, most of all. After all, what hell my life would be if some Canadians hated my government. I do know with Obama as President, my life will be ecstatic, since it's already wonderful. I am confused though. What is he going to do to make my life better? Also, how can one man in the world make lives better, if those lives are not willing to help themselves? Oops, sorry...I forgot the manifesto of the hard left states that all people who do not reach every goal in their lives, the government can make up the difference. Government control of life is a very good thing.
- InnerRayg, on 05/06/2008, -1/+4Assuming the majority of people here are of college-age, then he would be helping by providing an easier way to pay for the ridiculous tuition amounts colleges require these days for their largely ceremonial degrees. Not that I have several friends who have worked harder than I ever have to get nothing. They will be struggling with student loan debt for the rest of their lives and I won't, not because I worked any harder, but because I just happened to be blessed with the ability to remember stuff very well.
But yeah, hard work totally gets you what you deserve every time.
Goddamnit. I'll get off the soapbox.- aadyss, on 05/07/2008, -2/+2I paid for my college, children's college and some of the grand children's education. I also sustained debt for a career that was not included in the college curriculum. The G.I bill paid for 50% of that latter debt and I paid the rest. Now according to many of the 'college age' people here on Digg they want me to help pay for their education? Is that what this is all about?
- 533n, on 05/07/2008, -1/+2aadyss, I think that might be one of the most retarded replies I have ever seen on digg
- aadyss, on 05/07/2008, -7/+1Shucks cupcake, you are going to hurt my feeling. Have you not understood I could care less about your opinions. Talk to me when you get a little life under your belt and grow up a little. As far as I'm concerned, you are still an embryo.
- 533n, on 05/07/2008, -1/+3Right, I'm a 20 year old embryo. Anyway, if you are satisfied with Bush and his goons running things then keep dreaming sweet heart. His administration has wasted trillions, killed tens of thousands and ruined the reputation of America. Obama has shown that he is intelligent enough and respected enough to change that. If you can't see that then crawl back in bed with your sister because you must be a hick.
- aadyss, on 05/07/2008, -4/+1You do understand that 20 years old really is an embryo. You say '20 years old' like you have accumulated some lifetime of experience. You're still sucking on your moma's teat, cupcake. I want you to understand something. I do not and never cared what the world thinks about my country. I have seen all of the world many times, including your country, and am not impressed. My, you are a puffy young thing you are. Very proud, indeed. Remember, the U.S.A. is not your country. Please worry about your own.
- Pulch, on 05/07/2008, -0/+3Yes, we get it aadyss. You're old as *****. Remember how things changed all through your life, and you couldn't really compare one time to another? Our economy is crap, colleges costs more than ever, and cost of living is rising faster than income levels. And as for your earlier comments, one man can make a difference if all eyes of the nation (possibly world) are on them for guidance. People don't have the collective drive to make a difference, and having an intelligent man or woman who is trying to make life better for every citizen can do a lot of good and help a lot of people.
- aadyss, on 05/07/2008, -4/+1Well pulch, I don't think you get anything at all. You really believe one man can 'change' the 'world' and create.. what? A utopia, a heaven on earth. You can explain to your ancestors of the 1930's as to how much you are suffering with such a bad economy, etc. You poor thing. Somehow there are still ignorant people in the world who believe in the proverbial 'free lunch'. Sure, I can pay for your education, then you can spend next 45 years paying for ...not yours, but everyone else's. It would be terrible thing to pay for your own, wouldn't it? Faith in one man, not people. Wow!
- Pulch, on 05/07/2008, -1/+4Since the average person is as closed minded as you are, I have zero faith in people. And I'm not saying one man would create a utopia. I'll settle for one man not using a position of power to just help himself and his constituents, but instead using it to inspire others. How does having hope for the future equate to thinking free handouts are a good thing? Also, as somebody who (apparently) lived through the bad economic time in the 30's, wouldn't you prefer not to have to see them again?
- Eezyville, on 05/07/2008, -0/+4It might be better if everyone paid for everyone's college tuition. If tuition drops the the college student has to pay less. If the American people are taxed to help pay for colleges then the student pays less. Once the student graduates he pays for smaller loans and can also help pay the college tax. It might hurt a little in the beginning but with more college educated speciallized people the tax will go down in time.
- aadyss, on 05/07/2008, -1/+1O.K. children. First of all, what is closed minded about self sufficiency? Secondly, socialism will never prevent a depression. Socialism places you in a depression all of the time and bloats government more than it is already. Since when has government done a great job running anything? And no, I did not live through the depression. My parents did and they nor I have ever ask anyone else to pay our way. Not for college, medical care, etc. What do you think the difference is now? Why have we gone from a self sufficient class of people to those who just can't seem make it without some type of government assistance? I guess todays college students actually believe the crap they hear from their Marxist professors. We had those when I went through also, but believing that junk is something more sinister than just being naive. Sorry to say this but it's just plain stupid. But hey, you can give all of your hard earned dollars, when you earn them, to the politicians. What a brilliant and novel idea. I'm forever reading on Digg the brilliance of our politicians.
- Pulch, on 05/07/2008, -0/+2Sorry kids, it's time to take grandpa to the home. The senility is really starting to set in. Go and say goodbye, but keep your distance, he might yell at you for being on his lawn, wag his cane at you, and call your whippersnappers.
- aadyss, on 05/08/2008, -0/+0Dear Pulch,
I am a grandfather of 5 who bench presses 280# on a regular basis. 6' 2", 190 lbs and in , I'm sure, a little better shape than you. If senility was setting in, there would have been a lot of people who would have died. You would have heard about that in the media. It's strange that you cannot afford to pay for you own but can afford to pay for someone else. A very strange logic indeed. Well anyway, maturity will come with age.... Inshallah

- paulmike3, on 05/06/2008, -10/+3Doesn't the quote "'Obama is someone we respect and hold in high esteem,' the militant group said..." bother anyone else?
- Rodman930, on 05/06/2008, -1/+10Nope. Inspiring your enemies to do good is a better way to combat them than "Shock an Awe"
- pablogott, on 05/06/2008, -1/+2Nope.
- InnerRayg, on 05/06/2008, -1/+3The thing about enemies, paulmike, is that when they start respecting you they stop being enemies.
- paulmike3, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1And we all know, if you're friends with someone, their cause automatically becomes good. Right?
- arpad, on 05/06/2008, -7/+4By "the world at large" do you mean just the membership of Moveon.org or the editorial staff of the New York Times as well?
- Laminarcissus, on 05/06/2008, -0/+7Or how about the Black Panthers or Willie Horton?
C'mon, if you're going to play Breathless Hyperbole at least play to win.- Tyrghast, on 05/07/2008, -1/+2Bravo.
- Laminarcissus, on 05/06/2008, -0/+7Or how about the Black Panthers or Willie Horton?
- Rileyluck, on 05/06/2008, -6/+3its only because he is black
- 533n, on 05/07/2008, -0/+2I really think there is truth in that. The people fighting there probably don't care about his policies.
- Eezyville, on 05/07/2008, -1/+1I really really hate that phrase. Its basically undermining his abilities because of his race and I'm getting tired of hearing it.
- bananaspiders, on 05/07/2008, -1/+1yes we would, please put him in office.
- sfajou, on 05/07/2008, -0/+2Sorry to say, but the world thought you were fools when you re-elected Bush.
- Eezyville, on 05/07/2008, -1/+1Dude I thought so too. I seriously thought he wouldn't get re-elected but then wtf happened?
- lastnymleft, on 05/07/2008, -1/+3Find out: http://www.whowouldtheworldelect.com
- TonyLocNE, on 05/07/2008, -1/+1just wait.. the bury brigade will be along anytime now to bury you..
- mentallyinhell, on 05/06/2008, -10/+112You know the news doesn't give a ***** about Africa, this won't make it in the media.
- Mejari, on 05/06/2008, -1/+26Africa.... Africa... that sounds familiar...
wait, isn't that where black people come from?- InnerRayg, on 05/06/2008, -0/+16That's where all people came from.
- Elliuotatar, on 05/06/2008, -0/+9There are lots of white people in south africa, in big modern cities.
I know, it shocked me to learn that too.
Thank you American Chopper!- InnerRayg, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1Might shock you to learn why the region is so violent then too.
- cdahlkvist, on 05/06/2008, -3/+6Interesting that you would say this considering this is being picked up all over. As a quick couple examples:
http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=4 ...
http://www.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idUSL0444 ...
Check your favorite news source. Probably on there.
Of course you are right to some degree. No one seems to care about Africa. It seems more likely that this is being picked up more as an Obama story than a Nigerian story.- avaugha4, on 05/06/2008, -2/+9Interesting you say that. Try this one on for size:
Check the front page of your favorite news source...
CNN: nope
ABC: nope
FOX: nope
MSNBC: nope
BBC: nope (not even on their Africa page)
SKY: nope
They might have the article, but proportinately to the number of people this would effect, it isn't being covered the way it should. Will it be on TV either? probably not.
No front page, No TV coverage... From the perspective of your average American the media did not cover this story.- cdahlkvist, on 05/06/2008, -3/+2I see. So, in your opinion, if it isn't front page then it isn't news?
How sad for you. Most newspapers and news sites place 1 or 2 national and local stories on the front page and the rest requires you to actually open the paper or click a link.
You must live a lonely, uninformed life down in Grandma's basement.
I highly doubt you speak for U.S. Americans.- avaugha4, on 05/07/2008, -2/+2You sound bitter, hope you don't have a gun.
Statistically speaking, people are much less likely to see a story if it is not on the front page. I Count 40 + links on CNN's front page, ditto for the rest of the sites listed. This has the potential to effect the lives of millions of people in Africa, and yet it isn't front page news?
Nice try, troll. - cdahlkvist, on 05/07/2008, -1/+1I know your type. One of the doomsdayers.
Everything is terrible and everyone else is to blame.
I'm not bitter at all unless you consider reading more than the front page of the newspaper bitter.
You sound bitter with your "hope you don't have a gun" comment. That had nothing to do with anything.
But since you raise the issue, I hope you do have a gun and I hope you turn it on yourself.
You are a pitiful being.
- avaugha4, on 05/07/2008, -2/+2You sound bitter, hope you don't have a gun.
- cdahlkvist, on 05/06/2008, -3/+2I see. So, in your opinion, if it isn't front page then it isn't news?
- avaugha4, on 05/06/2008, -2/+9Interesting you say that. Try this one on for size:
- rolf, on 05/06/2008, -4/+3Maybe it won't make news because it isn't:
"The MEND command is seriously considering a temporary ceasefire appeal by Senator Barack Obama. Obama is someone we respect and hold in high esteem," the militant group said in an e-mailed statement.
The haven't even done a ceasefire. They are considering, sent through an email. Seriously, can the worship here become ever more drooling? - asspants, on 05/06/2008, -3/+1it's not just the news that doesnt give a ***** about africa. I'm not in the news, and I don't give a ***** about africa either. hay guise lets spend 30 billion dollars on aids in africa, soundslikeagoodidea, i'll write a check!
- Augie1969, on 05/06/2008, -1/+3countdown@msnbc.com
KOlbermann@msnbc.com
Let's let Keith know! - davidrools, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2But they sure as hell give a ***** about oil, and they have been talking, though in little detail, about the Nigerian supply.
- dBass, on 05/06/2008, -0/+3The trick here though is it's an African nation with lots of oil or "black gold".
- cougar618, on 05/06/2008, -0/+3I wish i could laugh at this comment...
He's not even the official democratic nominee and he's already done more in Africa than Bush. - unfiction, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1This guy is quoting Reuters. If that's not the media then you'll never be happy.
- steveboutin, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1maybe so, but the news DOES give a ***** about oil. barrels are more important than foreigners.
- Mejari, on 05/06/2008, -1/+26Africa.... Africa... that sounds familiar...
- iidestined, on 05/06/2008, -16/+38Its sad that the majority of Americans don't know what hes about. We need to keep spreading the word.
- stealthc, on 05/06/2008, -13/+8Obama '08. Nanny state with a great big smile.
- deaconyermouf, on 05/06/2008, -1/+17I know he's pro-hope. I'm not sure of his stand on dreams..
- jesusx, on 05/07/2008, -1/+0I support Obama, but you sound like a *****' Ron Paul nut.
- TonyLocNE, on 05/07/2008, -2/+1yes, yes MORE SPAM... because everyone doesn't yet know that he is about war with Iran, increased taxes, more government control, and is for taking away 2nd amendment rights...
- soulkitchen, on 05/06/2008, -5/+113I know that 164,000 Barrels/ day isn't THAT much crude, but wouldn't it have a certain irony if this were to lower gas prices enough to save Americans > $30 over the summer.
- wild, on 05/06/2008, -1/+50The American population as a unit can't understand that sort of world context.
- HillerMylife, on 07/24/2008, -1/+23It wouldn't be irony, it would be a roundhouse kick to McCain's and Hillary's faces.
- asskicker32, on 05/06/2008, -2/+21.03 million gallons of Gasoline a day? In the grand scheme of things, it could make a difference. The US supposedly uses 9 Million gallons a day and we use roughly 30% of the oil in teh world?
Maybe, 4% of the total demand? That could make a difference... - casuallyevil, on 05/06/2008, -2/+1Please don't be retarded... that's only 0.19% of the oil used in a single day globally (opec.org). If every cent of that savings ended up in gas prices, the average American would save less than 1 cent total. Not everything Obama does will cure AIDS and turn rain into skittles.
- giveer, on 05/07/2008, -0/+3He can turn rain into Skittles?!?!?!?!?! [sets out mixing bowls]
- Pulch, on 05/07/2008, -0/+5(whispers) taste the rainbow
- feelmo, on 05/06/2008, -27/+38still... Obama < Tony Stark
- Dragular, on 05/06/2008, -13/+53I'm a Republican, planning on voting for McCain come fall... but if Obama starts campaigning in a working Iron Man costume... then congratulations, you've found a new Obamaholic.
- WasabiBomb, on 05/06/2008, -2/+42I'm digging you up just because... hey, at least you're open to reason.
- withincontext, on 05/06/2008, -0/+23Define "working". Because, you know, I'm willing to meet you half way on this one.
- Spartycus, on 05/06/2008, -2/+23Yeah, still wearing an Iron Man costume at all would be badass!
Iron Man suit > a flag pin - SierraAlpha, on 05/07/2008, -1/+2If that comment was made by ObamaForAmerica then he would have won the hearts of all diggers, even the Republican spammers.
- Spartycus, on 05/06/2008, -2/+23Yeah, still wearing an Iron Man costume at all would be badass!
- rentmitchum, on 05/07/2008, -2/+2Buried for wanting to vote for McCain.
- HillerMylife, on 07/24/2008, -2/+17Hm, politics... or bubblegum comic book superhero? This is a true dilemma, I'm 13 years old
- davidrools, on 05/06/2008, -0/+8hence, the minimum voting age

- MisterChirish, on 05/06/2008, -2/+1"Yeah, I'm Iron Man"...
I'd have to agree with you... Iron Man as head of the Secret Service, maybe? - LogicBomB, on 05/06/2008, -8/+3So do you jump on every big-hyped movie bandwagon or just this one? Seriously, does it seem cool to bring Iron Man into everything?
- cme884, on 05/06/2008, -0/+7Yes.
- sephiroth965, on 05/06/2008, -0/+3This guy obviously didn't see the movie.
- bsonline, on 05/06/2008, -1/+1The only thing that would have made Iron Man better is if Samuel L Jackson were in it. And, you know who Obama just chose for his Vice President...
- Kirizan, on 05/07/2008, -0/+3I take it you didn't watch the scene after the credits then, that or my sarcasm detector is broken... damn piece of *****, off to the return department.
- MaC505, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1I think "Obama/Stark '08" looks a lot better.
- Dragular, on 05/06/2008, -13/+53I'm a Republican, planning on voting for McCain come fall... but if Obama starts campaigning in a working Iron Man costume... then congratulations, you've found a new Obamaholic.
- davidkeithjones, on 05/06/2008, -24/+84America will end up putting McCain in office...America doesn't deserve Obama.
- rjc5056, on 05/06/2008, -4/+15America doesn't deserve a lot of what it already has. Problem is, noone is ever willing to trade what they have now for the greater good and future prosperity. So even if some of the less ration people out there vote for him based solely on his charisma and the electricity he generates, I say fine. Because they'll end up with unexpected rewards and the opposition recruits through the mentality of "These are my personal moral values. Yours should be like mine too. If people don't agree with our values, they are bad people and their values are invalid. Elect me to help cement OUR values as law, and the right to trample on rights and values of those not in the group."

- acroyear2, on 05/06/2008, -2/+24The smartest statement I've read on here in some time.
- MoofTheStoof, on 05/06/2008, -1/+20America, on the whole, does deserve Obama. The majority of us are just fine, thank you. The third who are either fools, or villains who take advantage of fools are the ones who've been running and ruining this country for the last generation, and I think America is tired enough of their ***** to put Obama into the White House. Why do you think they work so hard to disenfranchise voters, suppress votes and try their damnedest to keep people apathetic and unenthusiastic about politics? It's because they know that a motivated electorate plus high turnout will sink them. They've already shaved 6+ million democratic votes off the general election this November by various shenanigans in some states, and I'm sure they'll disenfranchise more over the next few months - but I think that this time the nation is collectively motivated enough to overwhelm their false majority.
- highdimension, on 05/06/2008, -1/+7Amen. Good post.
- Tyrghast, on 05/07/2008, -0/+3Good post except for the 'majority of us are just fine' bit. This nation is on the verge of collapse, I've got friends in the military who tell me their checks have bounced. The government keeps printing money as if it doesn't matter that our currency is turning into pesos. A good deal of our population is behind bars, being a drag on taxpayer money and society (millions of working class men without a way to contribute outside their prison walls? especially consider the ones locked away for non-violent crime...). We are about to fracture, and when it happens it will be 'a bit of the ultra-violent', as well as happen down racial and cultural lines. There is no denying that. The one thread that might be able to keep this country from caving in is Obama, he seems like the only person in this campaign that is open enough to listen to all sides of an issue and deal with problems with common sense.
- ByrcheWroot, on 05/06/2008, -3/+12At this point, it's not about deserving. It's about needing. We need Obama.
- Meekus, on 05/06/2008, -3/+4On the one hand we are looking at someone who will spend us into oblivion on an interventionist foreign policy. On the other hand, we have someone who will spend us into oblivion on nanny state big government domestic policy. Either way the American citizen is going to be taxed up the wazoo with a currency that is falling quicker than Bush's approval rating.
What we "deserve" is FREEDOM to run our lives the way WE THE PEOPLE want to. Not look to empire building nor looking to government handouts.- Rodman930, on 05/06/2008, -1/+1WE THE PEOPLE? I think you mean ME THE INDIVIDUAL
- aadyss, on 05/06/2008, -0/+0mmmmmmmm...individualism bad, for the masses....good.
- ...---..., on 05/06/2008, -1/+2Good god - our economy is in shambles and getting worse by the second. Our national debt is skyrocketing worse than ever, foreign interests now own HUGE chunks of our country and banking systems... If there's any hope of getting a grip on our economy and actually owning our country again - it's by PAYING off our debts. This is going to require sacrifice by the public to pay for the irresponsible fiscal mess that Bushco has gotten us into.
While lower taxes would be good for me as an individual it will only make things worse in the long run.
It's time to do some fiscal planning and not just live for the moment with blinders on.- letitbleed62, on 05/06/2008, -1/+2More like the financial mess that Reagan got us into.
- Rodman930, on 05/06/2008, -1/+1WE THE PEOPLE? I think you mean ME THE INDIVIDUAL
- celkin, on 05/06/2008, -6/+1Could be worse. After all, Obama > McCain > Hillary

- letherial, on 05/06/2008, -1/+0you mean to tell me after 8 years of bush that we dont deserve to have a good president...well from my view point we havent had a good president since i have been alive. I think we deserve it because the people of america and the goverment of america are no longer in sync. granted the stupidity of people voting for bush not once, but twice, we may have deserved what has happend, just like we will deserve what will happen if we vote for mcain...but i think I deserve him as a president, but mostly, i think my 5 year old son deserves him as a president

- woodrow8292, on 05/06/2008, -32/+16Wow amazing. An email. With a reply from a rebel leader saying we will consider it. Wow. So basically it's like when you write or email a big company and they send back "Thank you so much for being a valued customer. We have reviewed your suggestions and consider what you have said. Thank you for your support." And then nothing gets done. Maybe he can email all the terrorists in the world and they will lay down their weapons and go home since Obama asked him. This is crazy. Nothing will happen.
- dinot, on 05/06/2008, -8/+17Name one international crisis that either Clinton or McCain called to end that got any sort of response indicating that they care. Oh that's right, there is none, unless you count Iran. Yeah, real diplomacy there.
- Dragular, on 05/06/2008, -4/+7"Helped by McCain's efforts, in 1995 the U.S. normalized diplomatic relations with Vietnam."
We're actually trading with Vietnam, Vietnam's economy is growing. All Obama's got is an email, likely an auto-reply.
Also, it's kind of unfair the way you word that. OHB's on the Senate Foreign Relations committee, so of course he's more likely to be doing this sort of thing.- boombye, on 05/06/2008, -3/+2Vietnam? Really, my friend just got back from Vietnam after living there for a few, and he told me how screwed up the economy is.
Seems like you're excited to support communism, too bad their system doesn't help the poor people there. So whatever, McCain made no impact on the lives of the Vietnamese people, but of course mi chongs don't know anything about Asia. - dinot, on 05/06/2008, -6/+2Wow, something he did 12 years ago when he wasn't a Presidential candidate is supposed to be relevant to this?
- JointVenture, on 05/06/2008, -3/+3Hey like I have a friend who like lived in the Nam and he told me to tell you to STFU because like he taught engrish over there and like knows all about the Nam.

Hey Boombye, STFU. like SO WHATEVER.- boombye, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1Yeah but unlike your friend, mine is actually Vietnamese and says the situation there isn't so good. But whatever.

- boombye, on 05/06/2008, -3/+2Vietnam? Really, my friend just got back from Vietnam after living there for a few, and he told me how screwed up the economy is.

- trizzlelv, on 05/06/2008, -6/+2You see, Mr. Wilson, that's EXACTLY the problem that conservative schmucks like you will never understand. Do you like being a negative dick?
- MagMarCat, on 05/06/2008, -2/+3You have all your Care Bears lined up on your bed still don't you.
- meatbiscuit, on 05/06/2008, -3/+3Not hope, it's called reality. If you think diplomatic relationships work with terrorists and terrorist countries, then maybe you should be the diplomat that travels to Iran and gets tortured and killed trying to "negotiate".
And no, he's not being a negative dick. You're just being an f'ing retard - boombye, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Israel negotiated with enemies such as Egypt and Jordan and now Syria for the Gollan Heights or however you spell it. I think they know more about diplomacy than you Republicans. So you think Iran would torture and kill whoever we send there? Just like you guys used to say about North Korea...

- natethegreat, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2Im confused. One Reuters article mentions Obama, but the other two mention Carter. Who are they really talking about here?
- aadyss, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2Carter = Obama = Carter.
- DforSpiD, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1I don't think it's that they will only call the truce if Jimmy Carter negotiates, just because they will call a truce if this happens doesn't mean that it is the only acceptable condition. They aren't saying it won't happen unless, they are saying it is likely to happen if (there is a subtle difference there)
- okcomputer1982, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1YOOOOO!!!! Jimmy Carter is the ***** man. How about that for a running mate!
- meltlight, on 05/06/2008, -8/+118of course Clinton/McCain will spin this as "Obama's affiliation with Nigerian militants"
- balibones, on 05/06/2008, -3/+4Having a millitant group say "Obama is someone we respect and hold in high esteem" is not necessarily a good thing for his campaign. I can see how that could be easily twisted in this political environment.
- Pulch, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1I'd prefer respect to "We hate you and want to bomb your country because of your involvement with out business" when dealing with a presidential candidate any day.
- balibones, on 05/06/2008, -3/+4Having a millitant group say "Obama is someone we respect and hold in high esteem" is not necessarily a good thing for his campaign. I can see how that could be easily twisted in this political environment.
- mikeman10001, on 05/06/2008, -16/+7Question: How come these candidates didn't give two ***** about any of these causes till the election came around?
- Mejari, on 05/06/2008, -0/+5Any other politician would (and does) ignore these problems during election times except to say something like "I think we should fix this problem" but they can't be bothered to waste time that takes away from campaigning. It probably would have helped his poll numbers if Obama just ignored this and kept campaigning, because the media won't give a ***** about this, but he knows that just because he's running for office that doesn't let him off the hook for fulfilling his duties as a representative of the United States. That's true patriotism, not ***** flagpins.
- larsone86, on 05/06/2008, -8/+373Real story: Obama's international diplomacy skills may bring ceasefire to African region, and maintain oil production.
MSM headline: "African militants hold Obama in high esteem."
TV news talking point: "Do we really want a President who is respected by terrorists and militants?" [next to photo of Obama in traditional African clothing]
Clinton: “Obama is weak because he talks to our enemies, when I am strong because I threaten to obliterate them with nuclear bombs.”
Voter: “I am voting for Clinton because I heard on the news that how Obama is closely aligned with African militants. Also I think Hillary is a fighter.”- Pimpalicious316, on 05/06/2008, -1/+146the unmitigated accuracy of that comment is frightening.

- kingmanic, on 05/06/2008, -2/+3At some point you have to give in. 20 years after the Chinese republicans got the boot by the Communists the US had to finally recognize they backed the wrong side. One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter.
- patpl22391, on 05/06/2008, -6/+2So, Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden are 'freedom fighters' to you?
- coolmanmax2000, on 05/06/2008, -3/+4No, but to them
- Mejari, on 05/06/2008, -2/+5They are to themselves
- patpl22391, on 05/06/2008, -3/+2Sounds like you sympathize with their point-of-view.
- InnerRayg, on 05/06/2008, -0/+3Pat, the real smart thing to do would find a way to cast Al Qaeda into a tremendously negative light for those people who -would- be tempted by them, because they are viewed as a force for freedom by the people who join them. If you can show that they have no respect for their people, or kill their own, or are just terrible in some way, then viola, no more support.
But if they can show that America has no respect for these people, or has killed innocents, or are just terrible, then they get more support. So it's a tricky question to try and annhilate an enemy that is impossible to distinguish from the innocent. - patpl22391, on 05/07/2008, -3/+3Ray, the truth is, they ARE killing their own people. The truth is that they are evil and it is news channels and others like Al-Jazeera that love to paint the terrorists as freedom fighters.
- kingmanic, on 05/07/2008, -0/+2Al Qaeda kills people but rarely their own as they don't operate in a violent manner within Saudi Arabia where many of their numbers come from. To some Saudi's they are freedom fighters trying to push American influence off of Saudi Arabia. Al Qaeda is a Sunni organization, Most Iraqis are Shia. Their people aren't the Iraqi's they kill. They are a fanatical and fairly destructive lot who ironically were anti-soviet 'freedom fighters' supported by the CIA in the 80's. So there is a very interesting irony in you attempts to debunk my statements by bringing up the very stereo typical case which proves my point. Terrorist/freedom fighter it's the same thing. A group with a political motive and the means to hurt people. It's simply titles.
- fleischner, on 05/06/2008, -8/+3Ah, the archetypical equivocation. I guess by that logic, Hitler was another man's equal rights crusader.

- InnerRayg, on 05/06/2008, -1/+4If you follow America's definition of it, then yes.
- Mejari, on 05/06/2008, -2/+5No, we just legitimize that they blow people up and we'd like them to stop. It's not like we send them a fruit basket or some *****.
- mxmj, on 05/07/2008, -1/+1Maybe that would help.
'Hey, Osama we just stopped by to say we feel like we should put all this behind us. We know you hate our policies and ideologies but we brought you some guavas and papayas. Lets be friends.'

To think that either side is not pandering to it's base (especially the well organized volunteer filled extra active base) during the primaries is to be naive about politics in America.
Also, though I am not the biggest fan of unions, supporting workers rights is far from a sin (unless you like working 18 hour days for little compensation and no job security, which is how things were in this country before unions existed). - WasabiBomb, on 05/06/2008, -3/+5Yeah, it must really hurt that your candidate can't do anything other than campaign, spend money, and lie.
- amightywind, on 05/06/2008, -6/+1Hillary is not my candidate. McCain is. I just want to see as bloody a primary battle as possible. Obama is already seriously damaged.
- WasabiBomb, on 05/06/2008, -0/+5Compared to Obama, McWho is a faceless, issue-less suit with one foot in the grave. The fact that he can only win is by letting his opponents do his work for him speaks volumes to his inability to successfully lead the country.
- amightywind, on 05/06/2008, -9/+2Obama is rapidly losing his halo. You ageism aside, McCain is a powerful and influential Senator, noted for his frugality with tax payer money. He is a true non-partisan with big ideas who actually has legislative accomplishments. McCain was a prisoner of war when Obama was studying in a muslim madrassa. Obama has a cheezy book and witless slogans. "We are the change!" -- B. Hussein Obama in better days
- banderwocky, on 05/06/2008, -2/+5And, John Sidney McCain III has a Black Centurion Card. He also suffers from "Seniors Moments" , looks forward to spending 100 years in Iraq while bombing Iran, not solving the 40 million Americans who go with out affordable health care issue and has a minimalist understanding of the economy.
But I'd bet he be a cool granddad. - WasabiBomb, on 05/06/2008, -1/+3"Obama is rapidly losing his halo."
And maybe if you keep repeating it often enough, other people will start to believe it as well. When the only way you can get people to vote for your McCain is by lying about the other guy, you deserve to lose.

- Plantagenet, on 05/06/2008, -6/+4Obama is a zenlike transcendent political figure who we are blessed to have among us. His ability to make peace in the Niger, AND end the fighting in Kenya, AND win the democratic nomination at the same time may make him the first politician to win the Nobel Peace Prize before he even becomes president!!!
- Misanthrope, on 05/06/2008, -9/+35I understand that there is overabundance of Obamaganda on this site...I get that. I just don't get why it's such a huge problem for the anti-obamas. I mean...I feel for you that your candidate isn't getting all the headlines...that sucks for you, really. But isn't it kind of a good thing that SOMEONE has gotten our youth up in arms? Isn't it a good thing that these people care about SOMETHING??
Every politician lies. They all over-exaggerate. That's just what they do. Your favorite candidate lies and covers up truths...even Ron Paul. It's just the way of things. Not that it's good. No that it shouldn't be changed. But for the moment it's not changing. For the moment things are what they are. And I don't see why every grumpy bastard on this site has to bitch when the young people get fired up about something. THAT'S A GOOD THING!
Just because they don't agree with you doesn't make them wrong. I don't think it's so much a matter of WHO they like...it's just that they're excited about it. THAT is the change we need. Young people have, on the whole, been overwhelmingly apathetic about politics for YEARS. As far as the future of the country is concerned, which I think is one thing we can mostly all agree is the real important thing, we NEED the young people to care. We NEED them to fired up about SOMETHING, SOMEONE. Maybe Obama won't change everything in 4 years, 8 years...whatever, but I think if he can get the 18-30 crowd excited about this country then he's EXACTLY what we need now.
It has to start somewhere. It can't happen over night.
Stop raining on every parade you see. Sometimes we just need a parade.- vexingmodstwo, on 05/06/2008, -0/+4It's not that it is "bad" that the youth have gotten excited about something, it's that they're obnoxious and arrogant about it when many of them are clearly clueless. At least that's my "issue" with all this rah rah crap over politicians in general, not just Obama (he just happens to be the one how gets all the face time here on Digg)
- Misanthrope, on 05/06/2008, -0/+3I guess I can understand that. I just don't see bitching at them as a useful tool for a mature, thoughtful person.
I think they just get excited when they learn something. Maybe the don't understand the implications completely...but at least they're trying. Or hopefully trying. It's much easier to learn about something you actually care about.- vexingmodstwo, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2I understand where you're coming from... I just don't see a lot of learning going on. All I see is people who've been impressed by a few speeches and looking for anything that supports an ideal that I fear just doesn't exist.
- Misanthrope, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2Sadly, that could be true.
I guess we have to hold out hope. Something has to happen if things are every going to get fixed.
- okcomputer1982, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1perhaps it is only now that young america has seen that government actually does have a very meaningful role in our lives. True, that doesn't mean we are not still young and on the stupid and I for one bemoan our nations general lack of respect for older generations. But still, maybe the idea that politicains and politics itself is not worth getting worked up about is becoming an antiquated idea? Is there something wrong with that? Isn't the "purpose" of every new generation to reach things higher then the one before it?
- Misanthrope, on 05/06/2008, -0/+3I guess I can understand that. I just don't see bitching at them as a useful tool for a mature, thoughtful person.
- Ethek, on 05/06/2008, -2/+8 It is unfortunate that people, young or not, need government inspire them about their future. ' A Goverment big enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to take everything you have' - Thomase Jefferson. All of this hope and optimism for government to effect change in our lives will ultimately lead to goverment facsim. I hope Obama falls back on his roots as a Constitutional lawyer and pulls goverment back
- Misanthrope, on 05/07/2008, -0/+2I'm not so much concerned about people's excitement about their personal future. That's really not my business, and that's up to the individual to work out. I'm just saying that it's nice to see people getting excited about the future of our country. I want to be proud of my country. I want to be able to say I'm American without having to fend off the attacks. I'm not so much interested in how the government is going to affect me personally...but how PEOPLE are going to affect this country.
I'd like to think that some of these kids are excited about what Obama can do for America, and perhaps what that will in turn do for them personally. I hope that everyone isn't just sitting back and hoping that politician is going to take power and figure out their lives for them.
My personal future, and the future of my country are two different things...and I treat them differently.
I hope this makes sense. Long day.
- Misanthrope, on 05/07/2008, -0/+2I'm not so much concerned about people's excitement about their personal future. That's really not my business, and that's up to the individual to work out. - rolf, on 05/06/2008, -0/+5I have no problem with Obama stories - I would love to discuss actual issues.
But I have a major problem with outraged half-truth headlines about other candidates that paint them in a bad light and the same technique here to paint Obama in a good light. Here, they are mulling Obama's proposal. That is meaningless and is certainly not what subheadline claims with "Obama seems to have brought peace to the Niger Delta. No joke."- Misanthrope, on 05/06/2008, -0/+3That makes sense. I guess it's just a matter of people reigning in their expectations while retaining their excitement.
- rolf, on 05/06/2008, -0/+2I'd settle for people on all sides having a sincere regard for the truth and not participate in spin/***** that festers in politics. Obama voiced similiar sentiments in the past.
- Misanthrope, on 05/07/2008, -0/+2That would be nice.

- brad3378, on 05/07/2008, -0/+1If there's one issue the youth of America should be concerned about it is the national debt they are inheriting from previous generations:
http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/
$31,000 per citizen and growing!
But guess what - that number is deceptive because once the baby boomers retire, they're no longer paying income taxes towards the debt. Ask yourself who picks up their slack?
