- clownguyx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3This article is six months old. I'm all for Ron Paul and everything, but he gets enough submissions on digg that we don't need to be submitting old stuff along with the new.
- LadyKofNYC, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I think the point it to look at how the media went from explaining Ron Paul's actual position on spending and earmarks 6 months ago to totally misrepresenting it today. Also note how the author dismisses him as nostalgic kook and basically laughs at him. Today, they're accusing him of flop flopping. They're not laughing any more.
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

- jhunters, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8This is selective reporting that is missing the context of the political process. Earmarks are submitted and then later voted upon. Ron has explained that he does not prevent his constituency from submitting their requests for earmarks, even though he may disagree with their proposals, but then votes against the spending bill(s) containing the earmarks. His position on this is that his constituency has just as much right to submit their requests as everybody else does, but that he will still apply his Constitutional standard when voting on legislation. He has stated that while he does not support the current system of special interest pork barrel spending, and actively promotes a move away from this system, that he will not deny the people in his district from participating (its politically suicidal to do so directly) and since so much money is already confiscated in the form of taxes, that it represents a chance to bring at least some of that money back home to the district (assuming the legislation passes despite his vote against the bills in question). The bottom line is that Ron Paul is forced to operate within the confines of the already perverted system he did not create and does not support. And he speaks out against this perversion of our political process whenever he has the opportunity to do so, promoting an end to this special interests driven process, but must at the same time operate within the current framework of the system.
- Snarfangel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Let's assume you and your friends are throwing a party, and everyone votes on what food to serve. If you'd prefer burgers to pizza, it's not hypocritical to vote against pizza, but still say that Canadian bacon and pineapple is the best type -- especially if you have to foot the bill no matter which choice wins.
