"If McCain Did This" watch!
marcambinder.theatlantic.com — If John McCain did this -- if he mistakenly said he'd visited 57 states -- the media would be all up in his grill, accusing him of a senior moment.

- roosevans, on 05/10/2008, -1/+8I am not a John McCain supporter but I do appreciate many things about him and as a "senior citizen" myself, I identify with him in his desire to make a positive impact for his country despite his age. Age discrimination is just as insidious as race or gender discrimination. Barack Obama's relative youth does not make him more qualified to be President any more than John McCain's relative age make him more qualified to be President. Obama's "misspeaking" being due to fatigue and McCain's "misspeaking" being due to age seems to be the current media perception, which in my opinion is wrong. If the Presidential race in '08 is between Obama and McCain, let us hope that race and age will be kept out of the political debate between these two contenders.
- defska42, on 05/10/2008, -1/+4I generally agree. Race, obviously, has no place in this debate. Age, to me, does seem somewhat relevant only in terms of health issues, etc. We need to have a president that isn't just healthy now, but will be in four years. Does it really concern me? Not really. Millions of Americans may not have health care coverage, but the President does. In fact, I have never even considered that any of McCain's "misspeaking" is due to age, I usually accredit it to fear mongering and intentional manipulation of the American public (see: his comments on Iraq/Iran extremists, etc.).
As far as Obama's quote above, he obviously meant to say "47". This is a non-issue. Although, I am sure right-wing wackos will use this in their "unpatriotic" argument.- supercynic, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2I've never thought that McCain's misspeaking about key difference betweens sects of Muslim factions was a function of age or tiredness. I think it's a function of generally not being knowledgeable about the region. Granted, it is complex, but this is the potential POTUS we're talking about. So, I agree that race and age should have nothing to do with the presidential election as a general matter. I'm just mainly dismayed that McCain '00 isn't around; instead we have McCain '08 who talks more like dubya, and the thought of a Bush III term makes me very, very ill.

- AlwaysAwake, on 05/10/2008, -2/+1Well we know Israel is one of the extras, since he joined Billary, Johnny, and Dubya in the attack Iran cabal. Which are the others ?
- Shellius, on 05/11/2008, -2/+2Obama has lost his bearings. He thinks he's won the nomination already too. LOL!
