Fox News Radio Compares Obama to Hitler [AUDIO]
mediamatters.org — Fox News Radio host Tom Sullivan took a call from a listener who stated that when listening to Barack Obama speak, "it harkens back to when I was younger and I used to watch those deals with Hitler, how he would excite the crowd and they'd come to their feet and scream and yell." Sullivan then played a "side-by-side comparison" of a Hitler speech a

I'm doing my part. Are you?- EditorResponse, on 02/14/2008, -12/+5Hahahaha.... Obama speaking style = Hitler speaking style! No substance lets just get the crowd all fired up! Obama is nothing but a charismatic leader. Now the comparisons start. He has NO substance, he hasn't had the opportunity to do anything all he does is talk about plans,. plans, plans that he has to put into effect. He has never done anything. Funny.
- hittnrun, on 02/15/2008, -2/+2How dare you question his substance!!!! You will be dugg straight down for that one, Johnny.

- CaymanCarpediem, on 02/14/2008, -1/+3Agreed. While I share theNazz's feelings, if we truely want to be a part of the fix Obama talks about we cannot lower ourselves to name calling and valgarity. There will always be devisive and offensive things that try to divide us and those who make a living off of it.
If they are things which should be addresses we should do so in a civil and logical manner. Cases of people trying to make a living off of tearing us apart like this Tom Sullivan, all we can do is pitty him and hope he sees he is part of the problem. If he doesn't, we must not drop to his level. Just ignore him to the point his ratings fall off and he will go away. - SenorCardgage74, on 02/14/2008, -2/+17No, thats not the best we can do: that stuff DOES NOT WORK.
They need to be confronted, ostracized and ridiculed at every stop.

These last 7 years have taught us that silence just empowers the morons of this country.- danielsan1701, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1The caller?
- CaymanCarpediem, on 02/14/2008, -1/+6I hope you are not an Obama supporter. Otherwise, you have missed a VERY important part of his message. I understand your feelings, I really do, and we agree on some parts. If you see something unjust or unfair, certainly confront it. However, the goal can not be to ostracize, ridicule, or make feel stupid. That is the past we are trying to get away from.
We cannot expect the past to just fall away if/when Obama takes the Oval Office. It is not Obama who will bring us together. We must do that ourselves. Obama can be the inspiration and catalyst, but it is very much something each one of us ourselves must commit to or it will not happen. It is easy to say "OK, I'll start after he becomes president". However, it is much like quiting smoking there will always be a reason to put it off. There will always be some devisive or offensive issue trying to tear us apart. We must just decide, do we really want to try? Do we really hope it can be different? If so it is time for us to begin the work. There is plenty of work ahead, there is no reason putting off this beginning any longer.
Do your part and raise above.- SenorCardgage74, on 02/14/2008, -3/+3I agree with you in spirit and just dugg you up, but again I dont believe that that is at all effective.
The right wing in this country spent 30 years hatching a plan for control in this country hiding in the cool shade of polite and decent discourse. They saw our simple decency as weakness and used it against us.
That's how guys like Rove were able to accomplish all that they have.
Yes, we should be looking forward and making our actions positive ones, but there have to be consequences for these people. The damage they have caused is REAL and MEASURABLE. Not just to this country, but to the world at large, and god knows how many people in the middle east.
We should take the high road, but we should also constantly shine a harsh and cruel light down on these reptilian sons of bitches (and yes, that INCLUDES the caller) so that they crawl back under the rock thy slithered out from and are afraid to speak their stupid delusions in public for fear of getting their hair blown back.
And yes, I am an Obama supporter. Im just angry at what our country has become (aand remember, things can still very possibly get even worse) - CaymanCarpediem, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2I understand and agree. I also don't mean to imply you may be less of a supporter because you choose another way. The other day I was actually typing a very mean spirited reply to some similar objectionable posts when I had the Will.i.Am "Yes We Can" song playing in the background and it kind of hit me.... I don't think this is the way I should be going about this. I wasn't following what I took his message to be. I was just used to reacting that way and so still was.
At that point, I decided I wanted to try another way. I'm not saying it is a better way, just a different way. Since then I've been on Digg and seen some VERY mean spirited and vulgar things said about Clinton, Repubs, etc and thought "we are still just playing the old games". Dividing each other and fighting each other. My goal is no longer to kick Clinton ass or republican ass, my goal is to fight for a new way where we can all win.
Perhaps naive, but I will hope and say "Yes we can!" :-) - nancyu, on 02/16/2008, -0/+1Hello, Have you ever heard of freedom of speech, or don't you believe in it? I thought this was quite funny. I'm neither for nor against Obama, I don't know a lot about him. This didn't change my opinion of him, did it change yours?

You could write down all of Obama's achievements on one half of one single eight and a half by eleven inch piece of paper. The democraps have really dug themselves a hole this time.
Now the only thing to compare in so far as achievements go is speaking style....and that is how this happens.
Heil Obama Heil Hitler!
- CthulhuDawn, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1Hannity had a caller yesterday who compared Obama to Hitler as well. Hannity berated her though, and basically called her a moron for making such a comparison.
- nancyu, on 02/16/2008, -0/+1Well good for Hannity, but don't forget we all have a right to say what we think. It is called freedom of Speech! That is why I live in America. You should have more faith in people to make their own judgments. You shouldn't assume people will believe everything they hear. Do You?
- tacohead, on 02/14/2008, -2/+7Good idea(Ignore this fool of a bigot)!
- Chompy, on 02/14/2008, -5/+27Taken objectively (which I know is not the spirit in which it was meant), it's not really an insult. There's little doubt that Hitler was a charismatic leader. Obama's like that, but without the evil.
- pintomp3, on 02/14/2008, -1/+21you don't exactly here them comparing reagan to hitler for his speeches though.
- jmpeagle, on 02/14/2008, -4/+3reagan wasn't nearly as charismatic though
- TheTaoOfBill, on 02/15/2008, -1/+3You're kidding right? That was the main reason he was elected. Reagan rivaled both Obama and Bill Clinton in speaking ability.
- MrBill79, on 02/15/2008, -0/+3Yeah, I don't hear them saying anything like that either.
- hoovcluck, on 02/15/2008, -0/+3however, they both went a little crazy at during the end of their terms.
- jmpeagle, on 02/14/2008, -4/+3reagan wasn't nearly as charismatic though
- Fordi, on 02/15/2008, -0/+9I understand the comparison was only on the merits of charisma. Still, juxtaposing the two is like standing Bhudda next to Ghengis Khan, and saying they both have similar facial features. Sure, it's true, but why would you associate one with the other?
- scubasteve377, on 02/15/2008, -1/+3The comparison was about the ability to get people excited (practically hysterical) about so-called "solutions" to serious economic problems, all the while the people understand neither the problems nor the proposed "solutions" to them. Yet, regardless of the lack of viability or substance of the rhetoric, the masses cheer anyways. Both Hitler and Obama tell the people what they want to hear, that its all someone else's fault. These parallels could obviously be drawn with thousands of other leaders throughout history, certainly with many who are much less infamous and hated than Hitler. The comparison with Hitler, of all people, was a bit of a cheap shot, but regardless, in this particular sense, the comparison is valid.
- pintomp3, on 02/14/2008, -1/+21you don't exactly here them comparing reagan to hitler for his speeches though.
- appst38, on 02/14/2008, -38/+6That's what I love about the Libs is their ability to cry foul on things they do themselves.. Like say Keith Olbermann or any other member of Congress. Dick Durbin comes to mind. But why should I try to convince you with the facts.

- TheTaoOfBill, on 02/15/2008, -0/+3Did you read the whole thing? Seriously... fail
- CabesMojo, on 02/14/2008, -10/+5Well maybe because your title and suggestions are completely inaccurate. Some lady called in and tried to do the same thing to Rush the other day and he just dropped the call. I can only assume she had heard this, because not like its something that would ever spring into my mind.
Anyway, the caller called up and suggested this, not Tom Sullivan or Fox News. You tittle suggests that Fox is referring to Obama as being Hitleresque. Now he may have had a little fun with it by comparing the speeches but Tom's views were stated pretty clearly. Typical left freaking out and calling for heads over nothing, still upset that right leaning radio manages to grow and dominate the airwaves when left leaning shows don't do nearly as well.
All that aside the fact remains like it or not that Hitler was a brilliant orator, even though thats not the image that ever comes to mind when his name is mentioned.- snookums, on 02/14/2008, -1/+3Then why didn't he compare him to Churchill
- Xenufield, on 02/15/2008, -4/+2Because Churchill didn't like socialism or a controlling government, and hitler did?
- TheTaoOfBill, on 02/15/2008, -0/+2Hitler killed socialists like he killed the jews.
- Loki101, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1Again, objectively, Churchill never spoke before a mass audience in the way Hitler did. He didn't "Play to the crowd" in the same manner. Virtually all of Churchill's most famous speeches were before the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
- Xenufield, on 02/15/2008, -4/+2Because Churchill didn't like socialism or a controlling government, and hitler did?
- Terr01, on 02/14/2008, -1/+6The called BROUGHT IT UP, sure, but then Tom Sullivan went out of his way to find a Hitler speech during the break and continue the comparison.
- CabesMojo, on 02/14/2008, -3/+2He was indulging a caller, these guys make their living off people listening to them this was a somewhat risky thing to do, I don't know how many times he freaking said the similarities ended with both being able to empower people with their speeches. Don't forget any talk radio host while they may be reporting on new and current events is also hugely about entertainment.

- VBDon, on 02/14/2008, -125/+23Obama isn't so much like Hitler as he is like Hubert Humphrey. Hubert used to give enthralling 3 hour speeches where he didn't say anything. He just sounded good. Obama is a Utopian Socialist and more like Stalin. Under him, we'll soon have the Utopian Gulag of America with his minions in control of every facet of our private lives. Ever notice how his minions refer to him the way North Koreans refer to their "Great Leader"? He's just plain dangerous.
- mreal197, on 02/14/2008, -12/+71I notice that those not bright enough to follow a speech that doesn't include "noooclear" and "Turrur" often don't understand that Obama is actually saying things of substance. Its just that he speaks in words with several syllables so you are easily lost and can't follow along. The thinking makes your head hurt and then you just turn it off. Maybe Bush could do closed captioning so he can dumb them down to the mono syllables that you can follow. Don't worry, McCains speeches are much easier to follow. No multi syllable words in "100 years in Iraq".

- JoeDiggsIt, on 02/15/2008, -2/+1His speeches aren't that bad (Bush's). He said "nucular" probably twice and people always go back to that. You must just watch the Daily Show bits on his speeches where they edit out the 50+ mins of intelligible (and I use that word loosely) speech that he gives and assume he spends the entire speech making those mistakes, which of course, are extremely obvious and idiotic sounding when you feature them in a section of a show dedicated to his little slip-ups. People sound really stupid themselves when they sit there and say "ya bush is a retard, he says nucular and he's trying to kill us." Analyze him from his true actions, not from what Colbert Report, Daily Show, MoveOn.org, etc. tell you to.
And of course that being said. I don't support Bush because of his poor direction with the "War on Terror." - Jackson0909, on 02/15/2008, -1/+0mreal........ congrats. Your post forced me join Digg. I have been an outside observer for many months now and cannot let posts like this stand any longer. Why is it that if someone supports a candidate such as a McCain or a Bush or a Romney they are somehow of lower intelligence than a supporter of an Obama or a Paul? I, for one, feel that there are equally intelligent and equally stupid people on all sides. But for the sake of argument, there are no shortage of "actors" and Hollywood-types with a high school diploma or less who support Obama. Why are they automatically catapulted above others? I think you need to rethink your argument and realize that you, and others like you, are being far too short-sighted. Learn to realize that people are entitled to different opinions and point of views without being categorized as having sub-par intelligence. Difference is what makes this country great.
- mreal197, on 02/15/2008, -0/+2It's not the difference in opinion that makes me believe someone is of lower intelligence, it's the comparison of a former Editor of the Harvard Law Review to Hitler, Stalin and a dictator from North Korea. I agree that there are stupid folks on all sides. I was not saying all Republicans fall into that category, just those who would get a laugh out of playing Hitler speeches and comparing to a US Presidential Candidate.

- Hipple, on 02/14/2008, -9/+35If you genuinely believe that Obama will establish the "Utopian Gulag of America", you have seriously gone off the deep end. I feel sorry for you.
- snds, on 02/14/2008, -4/+20VBDon - Keep in mind that your *private* life is being spied on by the CIA, NSA and the DoD because your "great leader" George W Bush decided to make warrantless wiretaps legal. So before you go chastizing Obama's speeches and his policies, take a long hard look at your own fascist political party.
- woodrow8292, on 02/14/2008, -10/+1Do you really think that the NSA, CIA, and DoD really have the ability to listen to or read the BILLIONS of phone calls and emails sent in this country on a daily basis? Unless you are some how singled out by the Gov't as being linked to terror I would say your phone and emails are safe. Get a grip.
- snds, on 02/14/2008, -2/+4Despite that, the fact remains that those government bodies have the ability to spy in on you without your knowing. And this isn't just some random person happening to eavesdrop on your phone call, they are actively looking for people that could even remotely be classified as terrorists. And it is Bush who can define what or who a domestic terrorist is.
What if someone happened to say something on the phone to a friend about how they didn't like the administration and (albiet jokingly) wished that Bush would drop dead? Mr. Bush could construe that as a threat on his life and as terrorist threat. Sure that sounds absurd to you, and it sure as hell sounds absurd to me, but the power he has is very real and very terrifying, even IF he hasn't used it in this manner just yet.
So don't tell me to "get a grip" when the reality of the situation is clearly lost on you.- Terr01, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2And the kicker is that they can (practically, if not Constitutionally) do it without you knowing *AND* without court oversight.

- UNCCEJ1010, on 02/14/2008, -4/+7Do you know what a utopian socialist is?
"Utopian socialist" was a term coined by Karl Marx to bash the "unscientific" socialists who came before him. Now, as the USSR was a state founded (in theory) on the principles of Marxism-Leninism, I hardly think you can describe Stalin as a utopian socialst.
Not to mention your comparison between Stalin and Obama is asinine at its most basic level. - ronpaul20008, on 02/14/2008, -8/+5i voted you up... obama has a cult following, but all he did was take a tim robbins motivational speaker course. he's backed by dangerous globalists, and will be a puppet for their agenda, which includes the end of america.. the north american union.

"Ever notice how his minions refer to him the way North Koreans refer to their "Great Leader"? "
At least Obama doesn't claim to speak for God. If die-hard president-worship was going to be the end of our country, it would have happened by now. - iPsyko, on 02/15/2008, -2/+2the ***** are you on, dude?
- Qtip42, on 02/15/2008, -1/+2If you compare him to the other two, he looks a lot less dangerous........So while I may not support him, I'd rather him be in than hillary or mccain. He's still a far cry from Ron Paul.
- PURPLEDRINK, on 02/15/2008, -1/+1hahaaha, delusional thinking is not a precursory symptom of psychosis, but one occurring smack dab in the middle of psychosis. Seriously, take an antiseptic if u doubt me and you'll notice the conspiracy theories not quite adding up like they used to ;)
- mreal197, on 02/14/2008, -12/+71I notice that those not bright enough to follow a speech that doesn't include "noooclear" and "Turrur" often don't understand that Obama is actually saying things of substance.
- Ridgeliner7, on 02/14/2008, -55/+21Media Matters shows its own bias by using the headline "Fox News Radio" to attribute, when in point of fact it was some host, not Fox News making the idiot statement/comparison. This is exactly what Obama and others are talking about. Our political discourse is hate-filled and disingenuous on all sides. People have had enough of this.
- yeti22, on 02/14/2008, -4/+38Actually, the only times Media Matters says "Fox News Radio" is when they're saying "Fox News Radio's Tom Sullivan". It's like saying "CBS' David Letterman", and it's totally appropriate. The fault lies with interg12, who abbreviated the headline and ended up wrongly attributing the statement.
- parkermt, on 02/14/2008, -1/+3I am pretty sure that the whole world knows that David Schuster worked for NBC/MSNBC. Thanks in part to *** News Bill O-Reilly.
- razorsedge555, on 02/14/2008, -22/+125Isn't Fox the network that has been ignoring Obama anyway? Who gives a rat's ass what the Fox network has to say. Their "journalistic integrity" is non-existent. I'd like to see a news network put in more investigative work and cover the independent and third party candidates. They don't even care about Ron Paul and he's a Republican.
- Ridgeliner7, on 02/14/2008, -21/+9Actually, razorsedge, Obama has said many times he thinks the coverage he has been getting on Fox is more than fair. Try to get your information from places other than nutty blogs and the Daily Kos. The notion Fox News is biased has been retired by many credible, non-political organizations.
- pyronik, on 02/14/2008, -6/+8I have been watching fox news on a daily basis and all I hear is how well obama is doing, i feel like im watching the Digg channel half the time.
- freakk123, on 02/14/2008, -3/+7Hey hey hey, Fox News is still biased. They're more biased towards Obama than Hillary because, guess what, the conservatives hate HIllary! While he might be a more formidable opponent in the general election than Hillary, conservatives would still rather him be elected because he'd be better and they'd like to see the fall of the house of Clinton, so to speak.
- pyronik, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1I am for mccain but if he doesn't get in i dont have a real preference of either obama or clinton... what you said about clinton is right , shes an easier bout in the general, but even without that republicans are split on who they'd rather see (clinton is more socialistic, but would probably be more iraq inclined to not ***** up that delicate situation)... so I dont know if I agree with that.
- Xenufield, on 02/15/2008, -4/+3Fox News is bias, nobody questions that, however anyone who can give an impartial thought will see that it is not as biased as other news sites. As Ridgeliner got buried for accurately pointing out, it has been shown by credible groups (Harvard studies and such) that they are the most balanced of the major new networks.
I've seen Fox praise democrats and bash republicans (including bush), and I hear conservatives (especially on the radio) go after republicans for a myriad of reasons. I hardly ever hear ABC, PMSNBC, or CNN (excluding people like Beck), attack liberals.- Ridgeliner7, on 02/15/2008, -1/+1Thanks, Xenufield. Digg seems to have become a living incarnation of "Wisdom of the Crowd". I didn't imagine so many were attending cocktail parties. LOL

- SwordofKahless, on 02/15/2008, -2/+1Because it is ***** since Obama has been the media's darling candidate. They have been covering (including Foxnews) since he won his senate seat several years ago.
- Devaney, on 02/14/2008, -3/+5Obama is actually stone walling fox news in an attempt to marginalize them...i think he started after the ran about 12 different stories about how he went to a fundamentalist madrassa when he was young. good for him, more democrats should follow his lead.
- skipdog172, on 02/14/2008, -3/+7Unfortunately, most of the country "gives a rat's ass what the Fox network has to say". Sure, digg sees through the BS, but mainstream America doesn't, ESPECIALLY for those 50+.
- hittnrun, on 02/15/2008, -0/+3//Sure, digg sees through the BS//
That statement is both rich and ironic.
pot, kettle, black - Xenufield, on 02/15/2008, -3/+1Yes the know-it-all teens on Digg have seen through the lies that somehow entrap tens of millions of people wiser than they.

- Shiftgood, on 02/14/2008, -5/+5"who gives a rats ass what the Fox network has to say."
Herein lies the problem of your statement. You see, the human race developed and mass produces this thing called alcohol. Now, used responsibly, alcohol is awesome. However, people can become addicted or ill informed of its effects and use the product irresponsibly (most likeley to ease the pain of lifes hardships). The effects of abuse are the worst when applied to a pregnant mother. When a mother drinks alcohol with a baby in utero, the brain development of the child is severely retarded. The synapses do not link up correctly and the child is born with a learning disability. When they grow up, they still have the depleted intelligence that their mother forced upon them and they tend to act violently and without reason. They are entertained by flahsy lights, bright things, aggression and group think.
these are the people that care about Fox network and they listen to what they have to say. And theres a lot of them. - HanSolo69, on 02/14/2008, -5/+2Actually, they don't care about Ron Paul because nobody with half the sense of a rock cares about Ron Paul and all Fox News cares about is ratings.
- ocbeta, on 02/15/2008, -0/+3See Fox news is not republican, they are globalist NeoCon. That is the real issue. The NeoCon's have torn a party apart.
- Xenufield, on 02/15/2008, -2/+2Much like socialists and progressives have done to the democrat party.
- SwordofKahless, on 02/15/2008, -0/+2OP is confusing Obama with Ron Paul, who Foxnews is actually ignoring. Foxnews as well as MSNBC and CNN allowed uninterupted coverage of his 45 minute speech on Super Tuesday. Something they did not give McCain or any other candidate for any other primary. If you watch any of these 3 networks they are all about Obama, Hillary, McCain, Huckabee and Romney (who is no longer running but they can't shut up about him).
- brufleth, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1They're also the network that hired Karl Rove as a contributor.

- gwayo, on 02/14/2008, -17/+51This is the silliest thing I've yet to hear. Last time I checked Adolph was shrieking at the masses in a robotic voice (looking equally robotic beneath his creepy mustache). Last time I checked he wasn't doing Q&As or townhalls or meeting one on one with people and listening to them. This sort of melodramatic talk sounds like whiny teenage-girl jealousy.
- m00kie, on 02/14/2008, -2/+22When did you EVER check? Hilter didn't speak in a robotic voice, his tonality and inflections were quite passionate and inspiring. And yes, he DID DO many townhall speeches.
- CabesMojo, on 02/14/2008, -1/+8Well when he googled Hitler the pictures must have made him look just too stern so he must have spoke like a robot. Thats just as good as checking right?

- SwordofKahless, on 02/15/2008, -0/+2Amazing that Mookie is getting diggs for his historical inaccuracy. Which makes the point about the kind of people that supported Hitler at that time and those that support Obama now.
- moush, on 02/15/2008, -0/+1I say, let them compare Obama to Hitler, there's no dispute that Hitler was a great leader. He just had some bad morals, did the wrong thing, and was an evil man. He sure could rally the people though.
- m00kie, on 02/14/2008, -2/+22When did you EVER check? Hilter didn't speak in a robotic voice, his tonality and inflections were quite passionate and inspiring. And yes, he DID DO many townhall speeches.
- wastedfish, on 02/14/2008, -10/+84Obama gives amazing speeches, Hitler gave amazing speeches. That is where the similarities end. And as far as comparing the two even if just similar speeches, it is such a dirty rotten thing to do It makes me sense. If they are looking for another great speech giver to compare him to I can think of MLK (Not because he is black, shouldn't have to say that) Or Ghandi etc.

- stretch611, on 02/15/2008, -1/+1It would not surprise me if "Faux News" staged the call,
- illycoffee, on 02/14/2008, -5/+3There are a few more similarities than "amazing speeches" --- the core ethic of self-sacrifice is prevalent through both Hitler and Obama's speeches and beliefs. Hitler was a Nationalist Socialist. Obama is just a socialist who talks like a preacher (a Jim Jonesish appeal).
- Xenufield, on 02/15/2008, -5/+3Both had an unreasonable following due to their charisma, and looked at growing and empowering the centralized government. Hitler was Fascist in wanting power of the State, Obama is more socialist in that he wants a strong welfare state. The difference between the two being Hitler leads to a brtual war machine, and Obama leads to a bankrupt 1930s USSR minus the awesome military production capabilities.
- rz8472, on 02/15/2008, -1/+3Fascism is antithetical to socialism. One of the first things Hitler did while in office was to ban labor unions.

- JlmAWP, on 02/14/2008, -19/+6So first they were trying to get people to hate Obama because of his race, and encouraging discussion of this subject, though it didn't matter at all. And NOW they're trying to make him akin to the most notorious man responsible for racial bias AGAINST black people...which he is.
- m00kie, on 02/14/2008, -3/+10" most notorious man responsible for racial bias AGAINST black people..." -- dude, Hitler didn't hate the brothers, he hated the Jews and Polish, you nitwit. Jesse jackson is has done more for racial bias against black people then AH did. You MIGHT want to study history, dude.
- Mers, on 02/14/2008, -0/+6While you are definitely right about Jackson in what you said, I think what he was referring to was the skinheads that in a way are a child of the nazi movement. He was stretching for it but I understood what he meant. (I think.)
- Netrilix, on 02/14/2008, -1/+10The end of his plan was going to be a blonde-haired, blue-eyed "master race". Needless to say that didn't include blacks.
- BobbyMC, on 07/21/2008, -0/+8Exactly. He's most famous for the Jews, but the real rule of thumb is that if it weren't fit for his master race it had to be destroyed. If Germany had any significant number of black people at the time it would probably be more notorious than his problems with the Jews.
- AgarwaenUmarth, on 02/14/2008, -0/+4Actually, Jews were the brunt of racial hatred for centuries, mostly because of their wealth and the fact that they charged interest. They still would've borne the majority of racist propaganda, whether blacks were more numerous or not.
- RRJackson, on 02/14/2008, -1/+1One of the interesting things about that is that Hitler was responsible for one of the quickest economic turnarounds in history and a part of why he was able to fast-track Germany's recovery was the elimination of interest. That and bartering for services allowed Germany to get back on her feet after a crippling post-WWI economy. A lot of conspiracy theorists hold that the reason we got into the war was to prevent Hitler's "radical" economic theories from jeopardizing American banking concerns. Fascinating period in history. It's a shame we had to paint it all in black and white to sell ourselves as heroes after the fact. Now nobody can really study the politics of the era without seeing Germany as some kind of cartoon bad guys.
- RRJackson, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3Actually, most of the "ethnic cleansing" was part of a eugenics program (albeit an overenthusiastic one). We had one here in the United States until 1965 that sterilized people who were considered to be bad breeding stock. Now there's a billboard right down from my house that has a photo of a baby with Downs Syndrome and says, "Every life is precious." The consequences of condemning everything about the National Socialists has actually been fairly detrimental to us as a nation. What's ironic about that situation is that the nation with the most aggressive eugenics program in the world right now is Israel.

- Haecceity, on 02/14/2008, -2/+1It's now standard on Digg to compare Obama to Hitler and then deny that the comparison was about anything other than the two men's inspirational / charismatic styles.
- Ridgeliner7, on 02/14/2008, -3/+10I agree with you, mochaman. Comparing Hitler to anyone other than another mass murderer on a grand scale, is inappropriate, to say the least.
- EatingPie, on 02/14/2008, -9/+47In terms of Hitler's speeches, NOBODY does them like him -- his speeches were very calculated, and very, very scary. While I speak with 20/20 hindsight, I hope that I would not have followed Hitler based on HOW he structured his speeches to whip people into a frenzy and control the masses. (He would actually stand at the podium for 5 minutes before starting just to build tension -- very creepy, but very effective.)
That said, I hate ANYONE compared to Hitler. It's just rhetorical nonsense. Nobody in power is like Hitler. When I say this, understand that the comparison is not made to connect people to a specific attribute (eg his speaking abilities), but to connect them to the "Hitler the Monster."
And instead of vilifying Obama and the like, it actually diminishes the horrors that Hitler committed.
-Pie- Bing11, on 02/14/2008, -3/+18I think Jon Stewart actually put it best: that comparing someone to Hitler is insulting to Hitler. What Hitler did was too great, too horrible, to be undermined by comparing it to anything short of Hitler.
- Xenufield, on 02/15/2008, -2/+1Jon Stewart never heard of Joe Stalin. He killed more (of his own) people, had an even more powerful following to the point that when he died, many people felt completely lost. His speeches might not have been of the same caliber but he was a far more imposing and powerful figure.
Ofcourse we have to remember Jon's jewish, so that earns bonus points for Hitler's evil for obvious reasons.
- Xenufield, on 02/15/2008, -2/+1Jon Stewart never heard of Joe Stalin. - Napoleone, on 02/14/2008, -2/+20"Nobody in power is like Hitler."
As far as "Hitler the monster" goes, his deeds paled in comparison to those of Stalin and Chairman Mao.
Stalin enacted policies with the direct purpose of causing mass death and suffering. Twenty-five million individuals died under his rule, as a direct result of his rule. Chairman Mao saw 60 million men, women and children killed under his own rule. Hitler doesn't hold a candle to either men.
You also need to realize that it's not about the numbers, it's about the heart. If you kill 20,000 people as a matter of ethnic cleansing, you're as much a monster as Hitler. This idea that no one can or should be compared to Hitler is ludicruous.- coreman, on 02/14/2008, -7/+0ob: Godwin's Law!
- natedouglas, on 02/14/2008, -0/+4I think most of what is horrifying about Hitler was that some of our doughboys walked into the camps while there were scrawny Jews chillin'. We (the US, Europe[?]) didn't see too much of Stalin's or Mao's handiwork. We didn't see much more of their ***** than we saw of Onate's or Torquemada's or any of the other assholes who enslaved, imprisoned, and killed before the 19th century. Even (American) slavery is documented relatively poorly compared to the Holocaust.
IIRC, most of the West had no idea about how bad Stalin and Mao were until decades after the Holodomor and the Cultural Revolution, etc.
- pintomp3, on 02/14/2008, -1/+11"Nobody in power is like Hitler." i think the oversimplification of hitler is dangerous, and leave us prone to let it happen again. we put him on the level of almost a superhuman evil that we think no one could possibly be that bad again. you have to remember, he was elected to office. he had the backing of the catholic church. germany's economy was in shambles and they were experiencing hyperinflation. he took peoples despair and combined it with hate and ultra nationalism. he is not the only fascist dictator to have walked this earth. many of them have been supported by the US. the imf was formed to make sure no country goes through this type of economic disaster that leads to tyrants like hitler. but since then, they have been helping to create economic disasters and dictators. take a look at africa.

- 10GunSalute, on 02/14/2008, -1/+2I think the point that this radio guy was trying to make is that people are more swayed by Obama's speeches and showmanship than by his actual politics, and I completely agree (though I support Obama's politics).

- Bing11, on 02/14/2008, -3/+18I think Jon Stewart actually put it best: that comparing someone to Hitler is insulting to Hitler. What Hitler did was too great, too horrible, to be undermined by comparing it to anything short of Hitler.
- Bing11, on 02/14/2008, -12/+92You were listening to Fox News?
Well THERE'S your problem.- Chromium24, on 02/14/2008, -1/+11That comment just made my day. Thank you infinitely, kind sir.
- Napoleone, on 02/14/2008, -42/+14Comparing Obama to Hitler is not appropriate. Comparing Obama's supporters to German Nazis is.
Obama's fanbase is blinded by all the hype to his faults. Much like brownshirts were blinded to Hitler's more violent faults. It's a cult of personality and it's sickening to watch for the objective observer.- underdugg, on 02/14/2008, -3/+13> Obama's fanbase is blinded by all the hype to his faults.
Okay, what are his faults? list the top 10, and we will compare them to Hillary's.- nblsavage, on 02/14/2008, -6/+12Napoelone is just a bitter Ron-bot. Don't mind him.

Comparing them to Hillary's is useless. She's a terrible candidate, and the relative game is no good under those conditions. Instead I'll tell you 10 things that will not "change" under Obama.
1. War on Drugs
2. Military spending
3. Military aid to Israel & Saudi Arabia
4. Real ID
5. P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act
6. Warrant-less Domestic Spying
7. War on Terror
8. Suspension of Posse Comitatus
9. FBI biometric databank of ALL citizens.
10. TSA database on the travels of ALL citizens.- bahamutxd, on 02/14/2008, -1/+3And McCain will change any one of those? I'd bet on Obama over McCain on changing any of those 10 things.
- AgarwaenUmarth, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Napoleone obviously doesn't support McCain, Bahamut.
- Napoleone, on 02/14/2008, -2/+2My point is not that McCain or Clinton would be better, my point is that he's only the lesser of three evils; hardly the saint everyone is trying to paint him out to be. Although definitely not Hitler.
- nblsavage, on 02/14/2008, -1/+3I love it - so all politicians are liars except for Saint Paul. The one true savior.
- Napoleone, on 02/14/2008, -1/+1Paul has his own faults, would you like me to list them for you?
- nblsavage, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1fire away, I'd be fascinated to see them
- Napoleone, on 02/15/2008, -1/+3Firstly, he's a poor communicator. He's reckless in how he exposes newcomers to his ideas. For example, he says, "We should do away with the Department of Education", and he leaves it at that. Thus giving voters the impression that he's against education. When it reality he merely objects to the federal government setting curricula, such as No Child Left Behind.
He doesn't fight back hard enough when attacked. For example, they accused him of being a racist, yet he's the only candidate that's advocating a full pardon of ALL drug offenders who have not been convicted of a violent crime. That's a policy that would mostly directly benefit minorities. He wants to end the drug war and treat drug addiction as a disease. He opposes the death penalty in part because he feels it is applied in a prejudicial manner. He also condemned the Iraq war as an attack against "innocent Muslims", yet he still gets slandered. These facts all contradict the charges, yet he fails to adequately defend himself.
He believes the free-market would take care of most every issue. While it's true that the market corrects itself without intervention, those corrections can sometimes come too late for many people. This is why the government should have a regulatory role.
A personal disagreement I have with him is on the issue of abolishing the IRS. While I think it should be done away with eventually, I believe we need it for now. The reason being, if we cut spending just enough, we wouldn't need the IRS, but I think we need to cut spending and keep the IRS, because we have a national debt to pay off. And it's stratospheric.
I also think Paul erred on the gay marriage bill he proposed in the House. It's wholly unconstitutional, because it ignores Section 1 of the 14th Amendment, which states that States must provide "equal protection under the laws".
There might be other things I disagree with him on, but I can't think of anything else at the moment. - DefendThyself, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1And so what's your point. He is still the best candidate. 1 million percent better than all the other dog turds running for president
- Napoleone, on 02/14/2008, -1/+1Paul has his own faults, would you like me to list them for you?
- bahamutxd, on 02/14/2008, -1/+3And McCain will change any one of those? I'd bet on Obama over McCain on changing any of those 10 things.
- pintomp3, on 02/14/2008, -2/+6every candidate has flaws that the supporters overlook. i myself am a kucinich supporter, but among the remaining candidates obama more closely matches my priorities. not everyone has the same views and not everyone assigns the same weight to each issue. to call supporters of a candidate nazis because they have a different views or different priorities lowers the level of the debate.

- MikeFallopian, on 02/14/2008, -5/+2Congratulations on completely missing the point. FOX isn't idiotic because they compared the WRONG politician to Hitler, they're idiotic because they are making these comparisons in the first place.
- techweenie, on 02/14/2008, -0/+10Good point. This crowd has always seen their own vulnerabilities and stepped out front to pre-emptorily pin them on their opposition.
- Quactaur, on 02/14/2008, -3/+14Yes, if you look at it, Obama uses an extremly emotive form of rhetoric that appeals to people's sense of patriotism.
But to compare it to Hitler, and on a chat show of all places, is wholly denigrating. Hitler had an able cabinet and under his leadership he repaired germany's economy; who would compare Thatcher or Bill Clinton to him? The fact is that involving Hitler in any political comparison will almost inevitably invite overtones of the acts of belligerence and crimes against humanity that he carried out. This radio host was either an utter, utter moron for picking up the Hitler comment, or wanted attention for himself.- Xenufield, on 02/15/2008, -2/+1Bill Clinton didn't repair an economy. He was killing ours until Republicans took control of congress, and Newt went to with him over the budget. His first two years were a nightmare economically. It's just a shame the conservatives were mostly lost before Bush got in, and we were left with people like McCain and Specter.
- Mattman9876, on 02/14/2008, -32/+5what will happen to the us if he becomes pres is the same thing that happened to germany
- bmorlok, on 02/14/2008, -0/+12What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
- sonaboy, on 02/14/2008, -0/+6"what happened to Germany" - oh - you mean, will we misinform the public about a faceless enemy attacking us from within, then generate a massive military buildup to pave the way for a campaign of unchecked aggression against weaker nations, then maybe dress it all up under nationalistic dogma and flag waving so people don't notice we're killing and torturing random combatants of this social upheaval? things like that? yeah - i HOPE Obama doesn't drive our country into something like that. I mean...stuff like that is soooooo 2003.

- z3r0c0O1, on 02/14/2008, -44/+4All these great speakers; Kennedy, Obama, Hitler were/are socialists, and I don't understand how America, the country that is supposed to be Capitalistic can vote for people like them.
- arw371, on 02/14/2008, -1/+11While I'm not a socialist, and I have problems with it, there are many socialist countries in Europe that have higher standards of living than the US. You can argue that their might be better ways, but you will make a fool of yourself to argue that socialism is incapable of working.
- ZWash300, on 02/14/2008, -0/+7At this point, I think it would be an improvement compared to our current state of affairs.
But anyway, your calling Obama socialist is extreme. Left of center, of course. Socialist? Not even close.- bahamutxd, on 02/14/2008, -0/+5Seriously, they'll throw out the word "socialism" because we can just about equate that with "communism". Just like Barack Hussein Obama .. - techweenie, on 02/14/2008, -5/+32The local Klan station in L.A. yesterday had a woman who called in and said her uncle had wised her up about Obama; that to him, Obama sounded just like a young Fidel Castro. I think we're seeing the righties floating some trial balloons.
- ISurfTooMuch, on 02/14/2008, -1/+7At this point, they have no choice. Bill Clinton got burned in this way, and the right-wing nutjobs could meet the same fate if they push these things too far.
- Cyrus042, on 02/14/2008, -0/+5General Election polls right now are completely worthless. It's February. The elections are in November. That's a political light year away.
- lukemann, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1I'm sure they're really scared about that 3% edge that he is getting over JM. That's even within the margin of error. Remember the polls that had Obama up 15% in NH......
- Loki101, on 02/15/2008, -1/+1Or maybe they just don't have a proper playbook for Obama? Trail balloon is probably correct. While they know how to go after Clinton, Obama is such a fresh face, they might be having problems working out how to best stop him.
It makes even more sense if McCain is the Republican nominee for the Reps to be worked up - both McCain and Obama draw from the same core pool of support - independents. A Clinton nomination would make it easier on McCain by driving more moderate Reps and Indeps into his arms who might be willing to vote for Obama instead.
- Loki101, on 02/15/2008, -1/+1Or maybe they just don't have a proper playbook for Obama? Trail balloon is probably correct. While they know how to go after Clinton, Obama is such a fresh face, they might be having problems working out how to best stop him.

- Xenufield, on 02/15/2008, -2/+1Given that conservatives are going to not vote for McCain in large numbers, it's going to take something more than mudslinging for McCain to win a general election.
- Loki101, on 02/15/2008, -0/+3Fear of an Obama or Clinton White House might do that.

- bingobongony, on 02/14/2008, -15/+6People on Digg, and the wacko websites have done the same thing to Bush and Cheney.
Hypocrites.- fleischner, on 02/14/2008, -8/+3My thought exactly. No hypocrite like a self-righteous, condescending, liberal hypocrite. Of course their rejoinder is going to be "Yeah, but Bush IS like Hitler!"
- thecatcantalk, on 02/14/2008, -5/+2Dude, that's like, you know man, that's like something Hitler would say. Like, what the *****, dude?
/irony *grin* - DarthKozy, on 02/14/2008, -2/+3sadly bush and cheney have done this to themselves. it doesn't take a genius to see that the current administration is full of it - only concerned with their own interests and bank accounts.
- CabesMojo, on 02/14/2008, -1/+2You're right it doesn't take a genius, it takes a liberal.
HAR HAR!
- CabesMojo, on 02/14/2008, -1/+2You're right it doesn't take a genius, it takes a liberal.
- lewhich, on 02/14/2008, -5/+2but Bush has killed just as many people as Hitler
- CabesMojo, on 02/14/2008, -2/+2Really? I must have missed Bush's ethnic cleansing of millions, you know along with the rest of the level headed world.
- mbelrose, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3This article shows that Godwining is something both conservatives and liberals do. You can't seriously pretend one side is better than the other when it comes to shameless rhetoric.
- lazyfisherman, on 02/14/2008, -3/+3It's not like Bush's family has historical ties to the Nazis or anything.
- ncredblstrength, on 02/14/2008, -4/+26That's crazy, Obama doesn't even have a mustache!
- fleischner, on 02/14/2008, -9/+4No, but he belongs to a black-supremacist church. Does that count?
- ssjasper2003, on 02/14/2008, -13/+7Obama 08
- iiBeLiEvE, on 02/14/2008, -4/+7In other news, Fox News Compares Clinton to a Rottweiler.
- underdugg, on 02/14/2008, -8/+5Speaking of Fascism, has anyone read the bio of MARK PENN, Clinton's campaign strategist?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Penn
"He advises organizations and companies on a wide range of image, branding and competitive marketing assignments. ... His present firm, Burson-Marsteller, has been linked to controversial security firm Blackwater and struggling mortgage lender Countrywide. [1] They have also represented the Argentine military junta and Union Carbide after the Bhopal disaster in India.[6] Burson-Marsteller pioneered the use of pseudo-grassroots front groups, known as "astroturfing," to wage stealth corporate attacks against environmental and consumer organizations. For example, it set up the National Smokers Alliance on behalf of Philip Morris to fight tobacco regulation in the early 1990s."
And then, there's Mark Penn's company:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burson-Marsteller - dualityim, on 02/14/2008, -2/+15The politician as the orator dates back to ancient Greece. Plato in his Gorgias gives us a warning against the orators. He is right of course, at the heart of any orator is the demagogue. While we are all currently caught up in the passion and enthusiasm of Obama's speeches, it does us some good to momentarily withdraw ourselves from the fervor and examine critically and philosophically the orator's role in society.
- RetlawST, on 02/14/2008, -2/+1This is very true. I'm an Obama supporter and find his speeches fantastic. At the same time, however, I find myself needing to step back and take a breath. It'll be interesting to see what happens when the propaganda clears and the man is left to do his work, but at the same time I have a feeling Obama will put his words into action.
- bjs3171, on 02/14/2008, -2/+2i've made the comparison myself, how Obama manages to get people so excited, it is very much like Hitler. And Hitler was a damn good leader. A psychotic sociopathic, leader, but a good one. Hopefully, though, Obama is less crazy.
- bbqsalad, on 02/14/2008, -7/+16Who cares? Fox is worthless and has ZERO credibility.
- mattletron, on 02/15/2008, -0/+0bbqsalad,
While I totally agree that Fox News has very little credibility, I must disagree that no one cares. How I wish it were so, but sadly, there are thousands of people who care. And they tune their TVs to Fox News every day, day in day out. To dismiss something as not having great influence or not being news worthy due to disliking that thing is flawed. Fox News has a very real effect on our nation, one that is visible every day. It's not like Fox News says something and it goes by unheard. It is heard loud and clear, and some of our neighbors vote based on that. So in fact, many people care, many millions of people care. Some of them are critically thinking people capable of seeing through the lies, others take it hook, line, and sinker.
- mattletron, on 02/15/2008, -0/+0bbqsalad,
- SwedishNinja, on 02/14/2008, -13/+10I don't support what Fox News said, but this is different from 7 years of Bush being called Hitler just how, exactly?
- prahareturns, on 02/14/2008, -8/+6Exactly what I was thinking....
- mbelrose, on 02/14/2008, -5/+1Nope. Does this mean the conservatives are sorry? Does this mean the liberals will promise not to do it again? Don't try to spin this into an attack on your enemies.
- CabesMojo, on 02/14/2008, -3/+4Its not, but libs can't see that, because when they have a view its right and if your don't agree with it...........you're Hitler!
- RetlawST, on 02/14/2008, -2/+6I dunno, Bush was a warmonger who played with peoples fears to persuade them to invade another country?
I honestly think it's a bad analogy, but Bush definitely has more "experience" being Hitler like. - bjs3171, on 02/14/2008, -2/+6uh...how about the 7 years of fear mongering, lying, and destruction of checks and balances, in order to give himself more and more dictator-like power? that's how it's different.
- prahareturns, on 02/14/2008, -9/+3Bush = Hitler?
- futebollounge, on 02/15/2008, -1/+2bush = suck
- mwolfzorn, on 02/14/2008, -7/+33"CALLER: Listening to Obama, and what I've seen on TV. I'm 65 years old, and it harkens back when I was younger and I used to watch those deals with Hitler, how he would excite the crowd and they'd come to their feet and scream and yell."
So Mr Caller remembers watching Hitler speeches from when he was at most 2 years old? I think someone was planted...- CabesMojo, on 02/14/2008, -5/+10You know what, I watched the Kennedy assassination a few times on TV. Crazy that I was only a sperm back then. How the heck did I do that?
- mwolfzorn, on 02/14/2008, -3/+3Yeah, but he references his age like he was there, not like he has been watching the History Channel.
- CabesMojo, on 02/14/2008, -3/+3Even if the caller was young during the war, it still impacted peoples lives post war greatly. Its not a far off assumption to imagine Hitlers speeches being shown while the caller was young and the world was still very involved in living with the consequences.
- mwolfzorn, on 02/14/2008, -3/+3Yeah, but he references his age like he was there, not like he has been watching the History Channel.
- Blondenough, on 02/15/2008, -2/+1Were translated Hilter speeches even available to the European/American public immediately following the war? While the claim that this caller might have watched/listened to Hitler during later but still younger years is plausible, I'm not sure those speeches and transcripts were widely circulated to the American public. Even knowledge of a lot of the concentration camps never came to the public attention until years later.
- MCCULLAH, on 02/15/2008, -2/+1i watched 9/11 and....oh wait....
- CabesMojo, on 02/14/2008, -5/+10You know what, I watched the Kennedy assassination a few times on TV. Crazy that I was only a sperm back then. How the heck did I do that?
- digitallysick, on 02/14/2008, -9/+4Fox news is very worried that we could have a black president! *looks around for black people* because if you see this, this is why you should vote.
- shauncorleone, on 02/14/2008, -3/+9He obviously should have left the comment alone citing that they're both very emotional speakers, rather than comparing speeches. However, if this was NBC or CBS radio, this story would not be on the front page. That is wholly predictable.
- bjs3171, on 02/14/2008, -1/+1yes. that's because NBC, and probably CBS would never do this. the caller's point is valid, but playing the speeches side-by-side and not pointing out differences? ***** them.
- dell111, on 02/14/2008, -5/+12its ironic to how bush and the republicans now are the closest thing to a Fascist government than the USA has ever seen.
- prahareturns, on 02/14/2008, -3/+2Minus the support of the majority of the population, including many registered Republicans
- Meganiac, on 02/14/2008, -1/+6I hate to break it to you, but it isn't like democrats did anything about it.
Look at Pelosi and the bunch who ran on ending the war! Even with a democratic majority somehow all the war funding has continued, the president has succeeded in granting immunity to the illegal acts of the telecomm companies, and Americans have been losing our liberties and privacy as the government whittles them away one by one.
The modern democrats are just as fascist as the republicans because they are all *GASP* corrupt politicians. They are in bed with each other and fornicating with the corporations.
Granted there are a few good men and women among them, but a small handful of honest people, like Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul (though I may disagree with both of them on some of their beliefs), are not going to save the American people from our complacency with elected officials who refuse to acknowledge the directives of the people that elected them.
- rutvik1, on 02/14/2008, -9/+6Absolutely disgraceful, no excuse for such a demeaning attack not only to Obama, but all those who fought for this country against Hitler!
- wildbillhick, on 02/15/2008, -2/+2wait, so its not demeaning to Hitler?
- chicoer2001, on 02/14/2008, -5/+10Is McCain like Hitler? People are excited listening to him. It's called having a fan base and supporters.
- techweenie1, on 02/14/2008, -11/+3except McCain's supporters don't shed tears and sing praises of Obamalujah!
- Devaney, on 02/14/2008, -2/+5hahah, have you ever even been to an Obama rally or seen any coverage of one that wasn't on Fox?!...he was in my city two days ago, there were 25,000 people...it's strange that I didn't see a single person crying or singing songs...not a person (there sure were a lot of excited people happily waiting for a democrat to take things over though).
- techweenie1, on 02/14/2008, -7/+2strange, you were able to observe the reactions of all 25,000 people...wow that's like ***** miraculous, you must be Obama- err God-like.
- Devaney, on 02/14/2008, -0/+5did i say i saw every single person? i was saying the number of people because it was a huge turnout for a small city, but i probably only got a good look at a thousand people in person, and maybe another thousand on the jumbotron, no one was crying though...didn't hear any songs being chanted in the stadium either
