- kfed2, on 03/05/2008, -0/+3In Switzerland the government issues all men (and women who volunteer) a fully automatic assault rifle for their military service obligation. The weapon must be kept in operating condition, and X number of bullets must be available in the persons home. The weapon becomes the citizens personal property.
This policy kept Switzerland out of both world wars despite being in the middle of Europe and loaded with wealth, and keeps violent crime at just about the lowest rate in the industrialized world. Culturally similar Germany to the immediate north has draconian gun laws, and a very high violent crime rate.
When they banned guns in Australia, violent crime increased 50% almost immediately. Similar stories in the UK, South Africa, Jamaica, and just about every country you look at.
Gun control advocates really have no case. I am not much of a Republican, but they are right on this issue.
