    1. she accepted more lobby money from military contractors than all other candidates combined (including all ex-candidates)

    2. she voted in favor of every war propelling measure that went to the senate floor

    3. her husband was the one signing over multimillion-dollar no-bid contracts to Halliburton at a time when Dick Cheney was CEO, achieving the company then-record profits.

    There is only 1 anti-war candidate, so by all means, if you are interested in electing Bush's war to a 3rd term please buy into the empty rhetoric that's being flung around and vote for Hillary or McCain. The status quo will thank you.

            There are going to be lots of people running for Congress on liberty oriented, small government platforms again. Sabrin, Forsythe, Paetz, Hendrix and Marshall to name a few. @Bullcutter - Obama's the guy with the cult of personality, Paul supporters support his platform. It's about principle, which is why it seems funny to me that people joke Paul supporters as myrmidons when most of the ones I've met are pretty well informed, though occasionally misinformed.

There were plenty of people arguing that it was all ***** and it was wrong, so it isn't like those who supported the invasion were under pressure.

Hillary Clinton not only voted against the Iraq War troop surge of 2007, she also supported a Senate Resolution against it. She also voted for a war spending bill that required a withdrawal.

He always replies with something like " I want to make sure the troops get the equipment they need to be safe" or something other ***** answer.

      Is he saying that effectively congress has no means to end the war? That they either fund the troops or the troops will be left in the middle east with no food, water, or equipment? Because that's what it sounds like he's trying to say. And that obviously isn't true. If you cut off funding, there would still be plenty of money to bring all of them back safely and securely. But he tries to make it sound as though he either funds the troops, or they will be in grave danger. So when weighed with those options he has to choose "safety of the troops first". Which is completely crap.

      He could and should have voted to cut off funding at every opportunity. He's also one of the biggest hawks when it comes to Iran and Afghanistan. So he likes stupid conflicts when they are popular, but likes to stay away from them when they are unpopular (yet still fund them). That's what it seems like to me at least.

Why do people constantly feel the need to call the Digg community ignorant, stupid, especially uninformed, etc? So far, the most developed reason that is given for Digg users being "ignorant" is that we use this site, collectively engage in news commentary, and have opinions. I don't see how that makes us ignorant. The users here span a diverse range of opinions, so it's really illogical to call the entire community ignorant. Of course, there is a natural lean considering the average Digg user falls into a specialized demographic (typically web-savvy adolescents and young adults), but in no way does that justify calling our opinions ignorant.

      For all of you that think we are especially ignorant, do you engage with the real world at all? When it comes to politics, this site has seen many supporters of Obama, Clinton, McCain, Paul, Romney, Kucinich, and others. How is this different than the mass of people who support these candidates outside of this site? There are supporters all across board in both arenas. Of course there are trollers and disruptive people who constantly have nothing of value to add to the site, but have you ever been on a large university campus? These people exist everywhere (and probably more so in certain public arenas)! And about us being especially uninformed: give me a break. Have you been paying attention to any of CNN's exit polls that have been showing large percentages of anti-war independents and republicans (sometimes in the 30-50% range) that voted for McCain and didn't even know he is pro war? The whole of the U.S. population is very uninformed about much of what goes on in politics. If you didn't know this: welcome to modern politics, which at times has been accused of purposefully keeping the general public uninformed on the issues. Just look at the 2004 election: many people voted for Bush again because he was "likable" and they could imagine themselves having a beer with him or something along those lines. In that election it was very difficult for the general public to have any sort of precise understanding of just where Bush or Kerry stood on certain issues because they were put on the sidelines for "qualities". The largest reason was that both of them stood to lose a great deal if they spoke on the issues. Between being viewed as having flip-flopping positions and positions that many in the U.S. did not agree with, both candidates were largely unelectable in the traditional sense.

      I kind of went on a tangent there but I think it is really refreshing to see a community of young adults engaged and concerned about the issues. Stop using your blanket statements and calling us ignorant simply because you don't agree with certain aspects of the community and can't stand it when people voice opinions that don't align with yours.

        I'm not American and don't particularly care about US politics, but sticking with the area you mention, haven't you noticed that the most pea-brained or unrelated abusive jibes at Clinton often get healthily positive diggs? The best one I remember was after a story praising Michelle Obama, among other things, saying that she had the brain of Hillary Clinton. Someone posts something along the lines of "does [Hillary] even have a brain?", with Friends style emphasis, and it gets a massive number of positive diggs. That is the work of group-thinking idiots with nothing to say, and similar goes on in all discussions of popular topics on the site.

    Many folks have built up a shocking fantasy world of what Obama or Hillary will do. As if all they have to do is decree it, like a King or Queen.

    There is one huge difference between Bush and the Democrats. When children were dying, over WMD that weren't there, there was no protests. No one compared Bill to Hitler. No one said killing 1 million people over WMD that weren't there might create more terrorists.

    Bill was cheered for his actions. 1 million dead.

    Both parties hands remain bloody.

Second, he didn't even come close to winning the popular vote in the 2000 election - not that it matters because we have an electoral system. Third, the public can have whatever opinion they want but a fair number of them don't bother to vote (which hovers at around 50% in a presidential election) so I just wonder why they think their opinion matters in a public opinion poll if they don't think it matters in an actual election.

      Congress is supposed to vote according to the will of the people, therefore, the country should act according to the will of the people. The men and women of Congress may be flaccid wankers, but it's totally outrageous for Cheney to be making statements like that.

Incidentally, nobody votes for "wars" any more; they just authorize the president to execute a "police action." The president feels perfectly at home ignoring the War Powers act even though it's law, and Congress allows itself to be brow-beaten into supporting the commander in chief because Congress is full of spineless bimbos. So much for the Constitution.

      We also depend on people in congress to represent us appropriately. If I remember correctly, the founders of this country fought a war over representation. If Congress doesn't stop acting like a group of aristocrats who "know what's best" and ignoring public opinion, then maybe John Titor will be right about 2036.

That said, the question as posed to him was childishly simplistic, and I begrudgingly admit, his answer had a bit of truth to it, Decisions of war, when lives are being lost every day, cannot be at the mercy of the whims of a fickle , lemming minded population. The use of military force is too important to be managed by popular opinion. All the more reason that WAR should not be used frivolously by a dimwitted puerile President who felt like playing with his Army-Men . Or worse , by his greedy evil blood for oil minions. Unfortunately we are in it now, and it will require a true leader to get us out. As much as I hate the occupational administration, I'm pretty disgusted by my fellow Americans that supported them, until they didn't.
