And isn't it a bit presumptive to declare yourself the nominee, isn't that the purpose of the convention.

Obama has the nomination, the convention is just a formality. And a big rally.

No, no he won't get everything right and change all of the problems we see over and over in Washington. There will be plenty more when he leaves, and we need to continue the trend of improvement after he leaves. - KingVegas702, on 06/04/2008, -2/+6Even befor i clicked to see the comments...i was like "im gonna leave a comment that says ***** YEAH!!" you beat me :(!!

Obama Windu wins- natchiketa, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1okay yeah, cause like, he's black... and mace is, too. *sigh*
- SuicideMouse, on 06/04/2008, -1/+2Am I the only one who finds that picture slightly racist?
I mean, he's depicted as "Obama Windu" only because Mace Windu is black.
Don't get me wrong, I found the picture bringing a smile to my face, at least until I remembered what that he was called Obama Windu. That just makes a point of his race.
I appreciate the depiction of Obama as a Jedi (or one with alliance to a Jedi) because I really do feel he is fighting "The Dark Side", though why not give him a different name?
*I began reading Star Wars websites at this point, then later continued writing this post*
Please note that while I loved the original three Star Wars movies I am by no means a star wars geek, however I did bother to look up a better name for him (IMO). During my hunt I discovered that "Windu" is part of a clan/tribe so Obama very well could be from this tribe, all of those from the area are in touch with the force and that helps too. Though that makes a fair amount of sense and with that knowledge I can eliminate any racist view of the picture in my mind I still think the name I came up with is pretty cool.
Technically I don't think it fits very well into the story line and I'll probably be shredded by someone who actually knows what they're talking about but I know this name at least sounds cool (and makes real-world sense): Barrek Obama
lol now after I've done this 40 minute (I read a whole lot more then just about names, I admit) sci-fi research I DO feel kinda like a Star Wars geek. Though I'm sure I pale in comparison to those who would actually call themselves that.
Anyways, after my research I found that while the picture is not exactly racist (especially if you know a lot about Star Wars), I do think there's a better name out there for him. I'm guessing I'll be dugg down :P- grammarpolice, on 06/04/2008, -1/+3Shut up.
- amightywind, on 06/04/2008, -14/+5Obama is a conventional liberal who managed to campaign for 16 months without discussing concrete ideas and sleazing by with the rhetoric of 'change'. I guess he means the change that will leave our pockets as he expands a bloated, rapacious, and incompetent government to overwhelm our lives. Vote no for a return to the Carter years! Vote no to racism. Vote no to terror! Vote yes for McCain.
- TobiasParker, on 06/04/2008, -2/+8Isn't all of that bloated incompetent government stuff exactly what we have had for the last 8 years, and what McCain is intent on continuing?
- unreg, on 06/04/2008, -3/+1Bloat in the goverment has and will remain regardless of whos sitting in the big chair.
People seem to forget, congress controls the nation, not the president.
- unreg, on 06/04/2008, -3/+1Bloat in the goverment has and will remain regardless of whos sitting in the big chair.
- misguidedmonkey, on 06/04/2008, -3/+1You're half right. America was suckered in by the slogan CHANGE We Can Believe In.
I laughed when I first saw it. It was completely unoriginal. But since America is completely naive, believing the reality if their reality shows, spending hundreds for a cell phone, wondering when their next orgasm is going to be, completely clueless to what's going on around them; this stupid slogan was a work of art for him. He has said nothing. He is an empty suit.
As for McCain. ***** MCCAIN. He's worse and so is Hillary. Obama is the better out of the three top tier candidates, but he's still a politician that would ***** you over if the price is right.- AmaDaden, on 06/04/2008, -1/+1"he's still a politician"
Yes.
"that would ***** you over if the price is right."
Based on his history in politics I would have to disagree with you. I have not seen one law that he has pushed for that was not sane and logical on some level (I don't agree with all the laws but they had clear logic behind them). I can not at all say that for McCain and HRC.
"Obama is the better out of the three top tier candidates"
I'm glad we agree on that. I just hope everyone else does too. - aaliymah112, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1I agree that first comment is very catchy.
- heypetray, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2Are you running for president? Great. Now Stfu.
- AmaDaden, on 06/04/2008, -1/+1"he's still a politician"
- CalmYourself, on 06/04/2008, -2/+2How is a vote for McCain a vote against terror? The War in Iraq has increased resentment for the US across the world , forget just the Middle East. The War in Iraq may appear to be working, the surge may have quieted voices in Basra and Baghdad...but how many more people are flocking to Osama bin Laden because of perceived American arrogance?
- salinemist, on 06/04/2008, -1/+2Almost everyone who has flocked to Osama Bin Laden is dead, thanks for our fine men and women in uniform.
- CalmYourself, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1No disrespect to our service men and women, because I think we can all appreciate what they risk every day...but I don't really see how it's making us any safer.
US approval ratings worldwide have hit record lows...and every time we think they've reached rock bottom, they drop again, all as a result of our mismanagement of this war. Blithely ignoring world opinion, for whatever reason, is dangerous. Perhaps people aren't heading to Afghani caves...but you can bet that there is little love lost between former moderates and liberals in the Middle East, and America, right now. Forget about the thousands dead...the refugees that are heading to the surrounding countries, putting strain on already strained economies, are not winning us any friends.
- Cagnazzo82, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2I love how you dumb Republicans love skipping over Clinton's presidency, and going back to Carter for your tired old BS about tax and spend liberals.
What years is this again, 2008? And you guys are still stuck in a time warp 1980 election between Carter and Reagan?
Conservatives are a joke.
- TobiasParker, on 06/04/2008, -2/+8Isn't all of that bloated incompetent government stuff exactly what we have had for the last 8 years, and what McCain is intent on continuing?
- digjam, on 06/04/2008, -2/+8The speech actually brought tears to my eyes.. I was overwhelmed! (and I am not even a citizen..wish my country had such a leader!)
- oakapple, on 06/05/2008, -0/+2I can't tell you happy I am that my country does.
- oakapple, on 06/05/2008, -0/+2I can't tell you happy I am that my country does.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Xxa0ihsoiYI - djk21108, on 06/04/2008, -0/+8Obama and Ron Paul are not any where near alike. I don't understand how Digg can make a complete switch between the two. One is in favor of larger more socialist government, while the other wants nothing more than a military and a congress. One is a religious righter on issues of abortion and gays, and the other is very much progressive. Both have similar views on Iraq, but what set Ron Paul apart was his take on the economy. He knows that this country is in for hard times, especially when Obama takes the presidency. Sorry guys paying more taxes isn't gonna put more money in your pocket. Ron Paul had a decent way to stop inflation and all that jazz, Obama is not going to save the economy.
I like his progressiveness on social issues, and i like his promise of hope in America, but neither he, or anyone I see on the political stage now can stop us from what looks to be an impending major recession.
Now go ahead and digg me down because this isn't the popular belief on this site now. I just hope you all remember that less than a year ago almost all of you were spitting in the face of Obama on here, and making claims that you'd take a bullet for Ron Paul.
I don't think most of you know how completely different your political views have become in under a years time. Just because Obama and Ron Paul both appeal to the younger set in America does not make them the same person.
I don't claim to know who's the best for America in the presidential job. One thing I do know is just because you are younger, does not mean you are a better equipped leader. Just because you have more experience in the Senate does not make you a better leader. All we have to go on now is what the candidates claim they stand for. Fact is, neither Obama or Mccain have ever been in an executive position. We simply don't know when it comes to that issue.
I know this has been a very general and pretty out there comment, I just have to get my frustrations out on this blind Obama support I've been seeing a lot of. So once again feel free to digg me down because I do not include the now ubiquitous Obama '08! at the end of my comment.- gcodori, on 06/04/2008, -2/+0lighten up, Francis.
- mrraven200, on 06/05/2008, -0/+1I always had respect for Paul for his antiwar and anti police state view but thought his no holds barred corporations will rule the world stance was frightening. Look at how Shell oil MURDERED hundreds of pope in Nigeria to see how that plays out. My guess is most people on digg supported Ron Paul for his antiwar stance and see Obama as the best chance to see that agenda actualized. I think they may be naive to think that BTW, but I can see where diggers are coming from with that view.
- YoshoKatana, on 06/05/2008, -0/+1you know, I dugg your "***** yeah" comment up before I clicked the link, just because of the title. Then I watched it, and wish I could digg it up twice.

I wonder how many of those people have studied American History then taken a look at Obama's policies. I find it ironic that a man who taught Constitutional Law seems to defy the Constitution's principles so greatly at times. He doesn't seem to mind making our enormous bureaucracies any bigger.

If you would like a laundry list of what his plans and goals I'm sure diggers would be happy to give it to you. And FYI the president was designed to be a figure head roll anyway so giving a good speech is kinda important. If the president looks good America looks good. If America looks good we will have the influence in the world that allows us to live as well as we do.

- Barackalypse, on 06/04/2008, -3/+6How many times has Obama voted for change? Please go find me some votes on issues that matter where Obama represented a change from McCain, Clinton, or Bush, because in the votes that matter that I am aware of, all three voted the same as Obama (for Bush signing the law is the same as voting). He re-authorized the Patriot Act and continues to continue Iraq War funding even without a troop pullout date.
- vawksel, on 06/04/2008, -3/+5What? You mean Ron Paul won? Oh he didn't? Yeah, no change then, just same old ***** we've been doing the last 100 years.

- alpha19, on 06/04/2008, -12/+2I like Obama, but every candidate says stuff like this... Even McCain said it an hour earlier. :/ Obama did have a great speech though.
- apec766, on 06/04/2008, -4/+27I get goosebumps every time he speaks in one of these kinds of speeches. He's an amazing public speaker. Absolutely amazing.
- wjackson, on 06/04/2008, -2/+6I don't even think he used notes for that entire speech. My goodness.
- MacEnvy, on 06/04/2008, -0/+4Actually, there were teleprompters. He actually gives better speeches without teleprompters in my opinion, but they were there last night.

- wjackson, on 06/04/2008, -2/+6I don't even think he used notes for that entire speech. My goodness.
- UnterDenLinden, on 06/04/2008, -26/+5Too bad he's just another politician who says what he needs to get elected. He may be good at talking, but I don't think we are going to see much change we can believe in if he gets elected.
- zepher5150, on 06/04/2008, -4/+5McCain Troll.
- CK20XX, on 06/04/2008, -3/+3He's at least better than McCain, who has been making himself out to be more and more like 4 more years of George W. So it's like we have to trust him. He's the only option now.
I'm used to all politicians being corrupt too, but if this guy leads as well as he talks, there may be hope yet. Perhaps we just need to do as it was said in Gurren Lagann: "Don't believe in yourself. Believe in me, who believes in you!" - 13blueideas, on 06/04/2008, -1/+3He's not even elected yet and you're already mirred in cynicism.
- chanop, on 06/04/2008, -5/+81I liked when he BURNED John McCain about him asking for Obama to go take a tour of Iraq with him, and Obama says to take a tour with him of the beat down neighborhoods of America.
- Barackalypse, on 06/04/2008, -5/+1Obama should do that and discover how many second and third generation welfare "families" live there and see for himself the inevitable result of this culture of entitlement our country has had for the last 30 or 40 years. He should also visit some middle class neighborhoods and ask them how they feel about high income, property, and sales taxes. Then he should ask "do you want government more or less involved in your lives"?
- didiman, on 06/04/2008, -26/+3lol what a loser
- moomincharlie, on 06/04/2008, -3/+0if by loser... you mean winner?
- Wargalas, on 06/04/2008, -21/+5No.
- ngmcs8203, on 06/04/2008, -1/+20I listened to his speech and McCain's yesterday. McCain made a comment about how he's experienced and we're still "meeting" Obama. Then he made this very cynical laugh. It sounded sadistic. The best part was when McCain said he's been asking Obama for months to debate the "real issues". McCain could barely make it through a sentence without stumbling over words. The debates between the well spoken Obama and McCain will be so lop sided that we will all be comparing McCain to Bush more than we already do.
- mewho, on 06/04/2008, -2/+22I've never been in a crowd like that. The emotion was overwhelming. People who've never been to political rallies before were in screaming and cheering. I saw an older black woman in tears, saying over and over, "Never thought it would happen, never in my life, never thought there'd be a man like him." Most of us who actually made it into the Xcel had been waiting for hours outside in the cold (50 and drizzly) and then over 2 hours inside for him to speak. It would have been worth double that. - kayala, on 06/04/2008, -1/+6I would've liked it better if my vaguely Republican mother hadn't kept interjecting, "Yeah, he talks about change, but he's so VAGUE! He never says what he's gonna do!" I just told her to quit being so lazy and look up the specifics if she was that interested - and naturally, she refused. Gah, people.

You forget that half of the US is retarded *cough* the South *cough* and don't ever voice their opinion or keep up on the election until they see a patriotic commercial for McCain 2 hours before they vote. Some people vote based on names "Obama? That sounds like Osama, McCain sounds like an AMERICAN name!". You'd be surprised. Oh ya and don't forget old people.
- Barackalypse, on 06/04/2008, -9/+2Don't forget the idiots that vote based on speeches and totally ignore voting records that disagree with positions they say are important. What about the labor retards that vote the way their Union tells them? How about the idiots that vote based on the race of the candidate? Or the selfish entitled types that vote for whoever promises to continue spending the most money funding programs they use. The homeless vote the way the people that gave them cigarettes told them too. The dead vote the way the living vote for them. I think that encompasses the majority of the Democratic voting secrets.
- lamiaconfitor, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2no, Im going to vote for him to piss off idiots like you.

- Barackalypse, on 06/04/2008, -2/+1It is rather amazing that a lot of people seem to be won over by idealistic fairy tale speeches and totally ignore the voting record behind them. I would love to conduct a poll of Obama supporters asking what they consider the most important issues to be and also ask their opinion on the border fence, Iraq war, and Patriot Act and then compare Obama's votes to their positions to show how he doesn't match their views.

- pintomp3, on 06/04/2008, -0/+5exactly. we cannot look to one person or office to change something that big. we need to remember these issues in other elections. both state and local.

What I'm saying is this: thank you for making me understand why it hasn't been taken out yet.
- kingmanic, on 06/04/2008, -1/+21It'd take more then a president to terminate that organization. It would take a lot of power brokers, working in concert as well as popular opinion to take it down. It is very economically influential.
- reaper527, on 06/04/2008, -26/+11yeah, because obama is going to lower taxes and cut wasteful spending and not introduce new bureaucracies to whore tax money like a ron paul supporter would want... oh wait... thats the opposite of what he plans to do.
while i do agree that mccain sucks, he is better than obama.- zeusthemoose, on 06/04/2008, -6/+10Its time to pull your head out of the sand.
- hominidx, on 06/04/2008, -6/+12Or maybe "even" a Ron Paul supporter can realize that some of their most valued goals, such as ending the war, are more likely with Obama than McBomb.
I suggest you read up a bit more on what Obama has done to reduce government spending and show more accountability for the spending that is done -- not an ideal solution for a libertarian/Paul supporter, but sure as hell closer than the Repubican nominee.- KennMac, on 06/04/2008, -0/+3Dugg for "McBomb". I laughed.
- wendelgee2, on 06/04/2008, -6/+4In the last 8 years of Republican rule, have they lowered taxes (for the wealthy, yes), cut wasteful spending (certainly not), not introduced new bureaucracies (DHS ring a bell?)?
How about we try to heal this country by governing well for a few years, then we can all think about where we want the country to go next.- reaper527, on 06/04/2008, -4/+4i would take current tax rates over higher tax rates any day. just because obama is going to raise them for the rich, people cheer and forget that he is going to raise taxes across the board. bush wasn't the greatest president, but i think kerry or gore would have been worse.
- KJSatz, on 06/04/2008, -0/+5Obama wants to cut taxes for the middle class. I don't get why everyone says he wants to raise taxes on everyone when all he really wants to do is remove the W tax cuts McCain used to oppose, make every dollar of income taxed by Social Security instead of just the first $100,000, and, aha, this: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/19/us/politics/19ob ...
- winmywii, on 06/04/2008, -2/+2There are bigger issue (to me) than taxes.
- Pritchard, on 06/04/2008, -2/+5I hate them both, but I'm more scared of McCain's policies and lust for war than Obama's policies.
- clarionhaze, on 06/04/2008, -5/+19Good to see the support. We need more Republicans for Obama.
- digitronix, on 06/04/2008, -0/+6Or less republicans that put party loyalty over common sense.
- Julik, on 06/04/2008, -14/+4I don't think you have any idea about Obama's "political philosophy" if you are a Ron Paul supporter that is going to vote for Obama...
Also Last month was the lowest casualties of the war and the surge is currently working. McCain said the surge was going to work.. when everyone else said it was going to fail. I guess he knows a little bit about what he is doing when it comes to protecting our country. All of the anti war people want to "bring our soldiers home"... lets hope we don't open the door for more attacks on the civilians by bringing them home. The soldiers job out there is to protect our country, and that is what they signed up for.
But the war is one of the only things I agree with McCain on, so it will just end up being voting for one guy because I don't want to vote for the other.- Pritchard, on 06/04/2008, -1/+6Why are there still people out there who support the War in Iraq? Your logic confuses me, too.
There's an entire ***** ocean to cross in order to attack us. The modern-styled terror attacks are generally by people so pissed off at us, they're willing to sneak into our country, live here for a while, and then kill themselves as they hope to knock a few people out. It's extremely difficult to pull off, and I'm sure they know this, but they're willing to try it anyways.
What are US Soldiers in Iraq protecting us from, exactly? I want the soldiers here at home so we can actually be protected here, not there. The surge is getting whatever job done they wanted to get done. Something along the lines of continuing our intervention in other nations' affairs.- reaper527, on 06/04/2008, -5/+2"Why are there still people out there who support the War in Iraq? Your logic confuses me, too."
some people understand that international instabilities impacts world affairs. instability in that region will harm economies worldwide. if we leave now, without stabilizing the nation would result in chaos. things would get so bad there if we left, that we would be back in 10 years starting from the beginning again. perhaps if the un would actually chip in financially and help us build schools and hospitals, things would be more stable and we wouldn't be discussing this.
economic reasons aside, does anyone really think the country/world was better with sadam in power? or do these anti-war people have such an isolationist sense that they have no problem with him torturing his own civilians and conducting mass executions because his soccer team wasn't as good as some other country? - Julik, on 06/04/2008, -5/+1Everytime they capture a terrorist out there they get information on what they are planning. They are able to put this information together to help find terrorists (both in the US and not), and figure out what they are planning.
Having the soldiers home they will not be able to help protect you here. Stateside the FBI and other government organizations protect you from terrorists. The soldiers will not be over here trying to find terrorists hiding in studio apartments. They will be on their base going to work everyday and training for when they are needed. There are some AFSC's in the military that can assist in locating terrorist cells and what not, but they are working for the FBI or the NSA. Right now those guys are not in Iraq.. they are stateside... helping the FBI and NSA. - Pritchard, on 06/04/2008, -0/+3There was no reason for us to enter. There is reason for us to leave. There's no reason for us to be back again - we're not the puppets of the UN.
Yes, you can find terrorists outside of the USA, and yeah, when we're not trying to control the countries we're in, we can actually provide ourselves some international defense. However, intervening in international affairs, killing and torturing people, and building bases in their countries creates more terrorists than it prevents from causing us harm.
It's also important to know a lot of these "terrorists" groups are former allies of the USA now being demonized by the current administration. They're not demons. You can make deals with them like anyone else and attempt to settle things down. Non-terrorists also flood the "terrorist" market. Pissed off civilians who would normally be in their right to defend themselves. These individuals range from the roof-top sniper to the soon-to-be terrorist group member.
@reaper - You really have to look up the definition of ISOLATIONISM. *NO ONE* who's sensible likes people around the world being tortured, but we can't afford running around the world rescuing people. Invading to "rescue" an entire society is invading because we disagree with how their society works. It causes enormous regional instability and it makes us look hostile. All that is left in the end is death... We may have been the first society to try and enforce "freedom" upon nations we invade, but we definitely weren't the first to try and enforce our idea of what is right and wrong - If you look that up, historically, you'll see what a terrible move tampering with another society is.
I personally value a country's right to let its own citizens manage internal affairs more than I do the delusional ideal of Westernized peace and values across the world. Why? Because people believe different things. Different societies have different values. If we all looked to moral responsibility to decide what to do around the world, we'd all be fighting each other - Or maybe we'd be moral enough to stay the hell out of each other's business.
- reaper527, on 06/04/2008, -5/+2"Why are there still people out there who support the War in Iraq? Your logic confuses me, too."
- KJSatz, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2I suggest reading more about the Sahwa militias and tribal leaders the "Surge" is propping up in Iraq. There might be fewer US soldiers dying, but Iraq is nowhere near the example democracy Bush and McCain hope for, nor is it anywhere near one where we can "come home with honor and victory" as McCain might put it. And it won't ever be.
- Pritchard, on 06/04/2008, -1/+6Why are there still people out there who support the War in Iraq? Your logic confuses me, too.
- Pritchard, on 06/04/2008, -5/+17I'm a Ron Paul supporter. I hope Ron Paul takes the White House. I hate saying that I'd rather have Obama over McCain or Hilary, even though it's true, because his policies are just damned terrible IMO.

- obelisky, on 06/05/2008, -1/+1ah, kool-aid
- GhostyBoy, on 06/04/2008, -3/+11I second that. I really like Ron Paul, but Obama has been consistent in proving himself over and over again.
The speech from a few days ago where he addressed civil liberties in an open forum of questions made me like him a lot more. You can tell the questions weren't planted because they were asking him about the patriot act and the NAU and he actually took the time to address the concerns. - Appleologist, on 06/04/2008, -3/+18I too am a Ron Paul fan, and if you are a true Ron Paul fan then you would hate Obama's political standings (besides the war). I like Obama and I think he will serve well as President, but I don't agree with many of his ideas.
- Hockey13, on 06/04/2008, -1/+10Yeh...CLEARLY he's not my first choice, so ease up on the "if you are a true Ron Paul fan" *****. As an economist, I know extremely well the advantages of Ron Paul's policies, but after reading through Obama's policies, I think he would be healthier for the US economy than McCain...as long as he forces the Federal Reserve to get the ***** dollar under control (or eliminate them). The war is that important, and on many issues, it's really not as if McCain is all that pro-free market, and any new wars would totally demolish this country's economy.
- AxmxZ, on 06/04/2008, -0/+3Paul Volker for Treasury secretary. Whip Inflation Now - again.

- geekee, on 06/04/2008, -9/+3McCain's policies are a lot closer to Ron Paul's on domestic issues. On domestic issues. Obama's policies are diametrically opposed to Ron Paul's policies. The only thin Obama and Ron Paul have in common is that they both think that allowing Iraq to become a failed state will make the world a better place.
- mochaman, on 06/04/2008, -1/+3I too would like to extend my congrats to Obama, and although I supported Ron Paul in the primaries, I'ma against the war. I hope Obama takes the White House in the Fall.
- KennMac, on 06/04/2008, -2/+6People really need to settle down with this "true" Ron Paul Supporter does not equal Obama supporter. It's rare for any candidate's policies to agree with each other. Not every choice is based directly on policy. A lot has to do with character and how much trust the people feel they can invest in the person. Obama and Paul clearly represent the people and not the power they're persuing. That is why their popularity can be shared.
- scamper22, on 06/04/2008, -2/+3perhaps true.
Yet, can you trust a democrat president, democrat house and a democrat senate? They would be unconstrained...able to pursue an idealist agenda...much like the bush administration. Even if you 'trust' Obama... you cannot 'trust' all the other democrats who as much in debt to unions and public sector... as Bush is to the oil industry.
That should worry you more.
You can never trust politics. Especially politics unrestrained. A politician likes Obama who asks people to have 'faith' and to drop your 'cynicism' is the most dangerous message i've heard in a long time
- scamper22, on 06/04/2008, -2/+3perhaps true.
- scamper22, on 06/04/2008, -6/+4All I have to say is beware of Obama.
You see the Kenyan crowds cheering for him? That may instill some pride in white people infected with guilt, but it scares the living daylights out of me (as a non-white African). Anyone familiar with Africa should understand why.
As someone who had to flee Africa... all I can say is beware of the man who promises the masses anything.
I've lived in 2 African countries that have been ruined by the same rhetoric as Obama. You know how you can listen to Bush's speeches and they resemble old british colonial rhetoric? Well I can do the same with Obama and a lot of bad African leaders (Jacob Zuma...). I hope this doesn't flow over to America.
You elect a messiah at your own risk. It will come back to bite you.

We need another Trudeau.- apetrie, on 06/04/2008, -0/+3We'd have had a shot at that if Ignatieff had won the liberal leadership. Stéphane Dion is a wet blanket. Charisma isn't everything though.
- romistrub, on 06/04/2008, -0/+5"Charisma isn't everything though."
I'm well aware of this, but charisma can make people passionate about politics and the one thing it strives to accomplish: change. - SuicideMouse, on 06/04/2008, -0/+3The only teenagers in my area (Ontario) who talk about politics are labeled as geeks/nerds or punks "who just hate the world".
It's ***** lame, those "geeks/nerds'? Yeah... they're actually intelligent normal everyday kids, not geeks or nerds, but since they have a political opinion everyone labels them as such.
Those punks? Yeah, some of them hate the world, just like some people all over this planet, no matter how they dress or act. Though when you actually look into the local bands here and quite a bit of punk music from all over the world, we aren't talking about how we hate it, we're talking about how we want change.
Canada is in need of a change, a change that will make having an interest in politics fun and interesting rather then something only "losers" have. This is a serious issue.
If someone like Obama was up here I'd be willing to bet more kids would be enthusiastic about politics and the ensuing processes just because of his charisma and enthusiasm.
- jankind, on 06/04/2008, -2/+2I'm with you. I'm Canadian and very proud of that but I have lived in the States most of my life and for the first time ever, I really want to be a part of the process. And I plan on it if he gets in and runs for a second term.

- SuicideMouse, on 06/04/2008, -1/+4I'm a guy, I think he's pretty hot too. You're not gay just because you can see if someone of the same sex is good looking. If it did make you gay, then every guy who ever tried to work out to look more like a guy on a magazine, a guy in a movie, a band member or anyone else they thought looked good, hot, or sexy is therefore gay. So denying the ability to see if someone's good looking unless you're gay is pretty stupid.

Watching fox news and listening to Karl Rove? Is this Hillary's base? Hillary or not, Obama never would have had this crowd.- datafeaster, on 06/04/2008, -0/+3It's called "playing to the center".
Those are the votes that could go either way; . . .besides, fox news is a hoot.

Yes, it's Obama and his supporters that are keeping people divided...

If Hillary hadn't been so stubborn and conceded- things would be different. But her indifference to unification of the party is what is causing the rift- if anything she's the one with work to do. - Kazbaeden, on 06/04/2008, -1/+20Wow, and I thought Digg was an echo chamber. At least after all the ***** has been burried there is some intelligent discussion left here.
- Codylan, on 06/04/2008, -1/+30Wow! Was it just me or did anyone else notice many of those Hillary forum comments had a lot of poor grammar and spelling? Much more than what you typically find here on DIGG. Perhaps they represent the uneducated, working class half-wits that make up the bulk of her support. Many believe that our forefathers concocted the electoral college and the delegate system because the general population at that time was not educated or smart enough to make a intelligent, informed decision. My how times have not changed.
- datafeaster, on 06/04/2008, -1/+4How true: look at our current prez.
- Jorin, on 06/04/2008, -2/+8I wonder if the HRC supporters we're reading aren't just a loud minority of especially zealous fans. I wonder if the average Clinton supporter has this attitude of if most people are willing to go along with Obama, even grudingly. The democrats have to unite and move forward. They've picked the obviously stronger candidate. Division never seems to bother right-wing parties as much as it does left... They have to put petty differences aside.
- EskNerd, on 06/04/2008, -1/+17Wow, these people are insane. All they can provide are the shallowest of ad hominem arguments (big ears, blue tie), and on top of that they don't even know the history of their own candidate. They call out Obama for mentioning that Bill and Hillary started out campaigning in Texas (which they did, for McGovern in 1972), as if he's spinning evil lies about their candidate.
- kgdoom, on 06/04/2008, -0/+19How could someone possibly call Obama deceptive, then turn around and support Hillary? Were they following her campaign AT ALL?

- reuscel, on 06/04/2008, -8/+109It's time to stop the Hillary bashing, people. She lost, Obama won. We should be happy, and we Obama supporters should be busting our asses to make sure the Clinton's supporters aren't so bitter about the defeat that they vote for John McCain. Sure, she was duplicitous, conniving and downright Rove-ian in her campaign, but it's now time to focus on getting our man into the White House and cleaning up the mess made by the fascist Bush administration instead of focusing on what Hillary did wrong. Her defeat speaks for itself.
- rex84, on 06/04/2008, -2/+5“we Obama supporters should be busting our asses to make sure the Clinton's supporters aren't so bitter about the defeat that they vote for John McCain.”

- Vermifax, on 06/04/2008, -2/+10I gotta weigh in, here...
I agree: the Hillary-bashing is juvenile and counter-productive but, dammit - she had some of this coming.
Everyone agrees that Sen. Clinton is WAY qualified to be PotUS. That wasn't really the problem. My problem with Hillary is her sense of entitlement and her arrogance. It destroyed her campaign and the Clinton brand name.
Hillary ran her campaign as if Obama was Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. When it was clear to her this was not the case, the Pandering Machine was kicked into high gear, Clinton's speech last night summed up everything that annoys me about her and her campaign.
I believe that deep down she's a decent person but, she's a prisoner of her own politics and elitism. She underestimated Obama and the American people.
So, while I do echo and agree with your sentiments, i just felt the need to explain the "bashing". You're right, though. Let's move on and put the GOP out of its misery.- kayala, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1I wanted to digg you, but then you brought up the "elitism" crap. For the love of all that is holy, ENOUGH!
- CanadianRealist, on 06/04/2008, -1/+6From the linked article in a previous Digg story:
http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Clinton_s_Refusa ...
"Well whatever that was, it wasn't a concession speech." -- FNC's Hume
When she's ready to admit at Obama won and she lost, then it's time to stop the Hillary bashing. Until then - full speed ahead with the Hillary bashing.
If I were Obama I'd be having nightmares about showing up for my first day of being president, and seeing Hillary there in the Oval Office, acting as if she belongs there. - monoa, on 06/04/2008, -0/+5Absolutely. Learn from Barack.
The same rules apply when dealing with McCain supporters. Reason, evidence and calm logic will win some over. - dnite, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2I agree in some ways...
Obama supporters do need to lay off of the Clinton faithful and start helping them see that their petty arguments against Obama are way smaller than the beefs they SHOULD have against McCain.
I do feel more so that it was Clinton herself that has the responsibility to unite her followers and get them on Obama's side if she truly cares about her party as much as she says she does. The damage has been done and last night's speech did nothing to mend any bridges, all it did was unite her fans into thinking that she still has a shot for some diluted reason. It enraged them more because they all really think that Clinton is going to take this all the way to Denver. She has to do something in the next couple of days and I can only hope that her reasoning for not conceding was so that her and her campaign could come up with the best strategy for bringing her "18 million" voters to the Obama camp. I know she has VP on the brain, but she doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell if she doesn't do SOMETHING selfless and SOMETHING to show people that she supports her own party.
On a closing note, did everyone notice the lack of himself in Obama's speech? He rarely mentioned himself. Never mentioned his race. It was all about America and his supporters. Hillary was all about herself and what she's done.- mrraven200, on 06/05/2008, -1/+1How bout NO! Hillary's allusion to assasination, her blatant pandering to racist uneducated people, her tenure at Wal-Mart and her "Obliterate Iran." comment make he completly unfit to benear power even at the county dog catcher level.
As it is Obama barely cuts it for me, he gets A LOT of money from Wall St. you know the people who brought you the sub prime crises and oil price run ups due to speculation:
http://www.counterpunch.org/martens05052008.html
He also promises MORE funding for Blackwater in Iraq:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeremy-scahill/obama ...
Now I DO think Obama's better than McCaniac and I'll vote for him if it's all close in Michigan (if not Cynthia baby!) but he's no second coming at the end of the day he's still a corporate funded mainstream political candidate and bailing out the ship of American is going to require a lot of work on the ground by ALL American citizens.
I do however congratulate him as the first black Presidential candidate, congrats Barack! I hope you really are who you say you are.
- mrraven200, on 06/05/2008, -1/+1How bout NO! Hillary's allusion to assasination, her blatant pandering to racist uneducated people, her tenure at Wal-Mart and her "Obliterate Iran." comment make he completly unfit to benear power even at the county dog catcher level.

- apec766, on 06/04/2008, -6/+25Now it's on Hillary's plate to go out peacefully, and supportingly, of the democratic nominee. As someone said earlier, she had the chance to make this party whole last night, and didn't take it.
- zepher5150, on 06/04/2008, -2/+8Hillary Clinton is very disappointing. Instead of recognizing the significance of Obama being nominated last night she made it all about herself. Nevermind uniting the Democrartic party. I almost think Hillary wants McCain to win, so she could come back in 2012.
It is really hard not to dislike Hillary Clinton. But, I believe Obama will succeed regardless of Hillarys vain attempts split the party.

Just checking. - mediaspree, on 06/04/2008, -1/+12I'm a huge supporter of Ron Paul but he'll be 76 by then. Too old to be president IMHO. He's fanned the flames of the revolution, lets us continue it.

The winds of change are here.- coolkatz321, on 06/04/2008, -1/+5I don't think it would be wise to have a failed VP candidate on the ticket as, well, VP. I love Edwards, but there are other places for him in the next administration.

Obama 08 - papastout, on 06/04/2008, -10/+5'tis our moment! w00t!
- chrissku, on 06/04/2008, -11/+70The fact that Hillary did not concede last night shows all of us just how irrational this women is. She thinks she is now owed the VP spot, sort of the same way she told the American people she was entitled to the Presidency. Hillary Clinton you're pathetic.
- slyzxx, on 06/04/2008, -8/+4Its not that simple to concede, she has to some time so that her voters will vote for obama.
- DooM, on 06/04/2008, -0/+16No - it's simply political. She's holding the Democratic Party hostage with the threat of turning her supporters away from the party so that she can get some consolation prizes - whatever those may be. It's selfish - it's stupid - it's not a good leadership quality.
- rezist, on 06/04/2008, -10/+1Half of the democrats in the United States voted for her, you and your comments are the tumor growing ever larger within the Digg community. The office of president is trivial at best. You most likely have just become interested in politics due to this race, and based on information you have received on this website. Your comment was pathetic.
- DooM, on 06/04/2008, -1/+2"The office of president is trivial at best."
Tell that to the familes of the 4,000+ soldiers who would be alive today if not for such 'trivia'.- rezist, on 06/05/2008, -1/+1the current pres. had nothing to do with this invasion of Iraq. The stage was set years prior to his inauguration. Not that this country would elect a bi-racial president but if it does happen you will see Obama doing the same thing in Iran, get your news from somewhere other than a website that is in rapid decline.

It's not as if she will have any real power as VP. No DIck Cheny shenanigans likely. But think about all the extra votes this will bring, and ensure the victory in Nov.- Brownds, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1I see your point and you are correct. But I want him to pick someone with integrity and The Clintons seem to be fresh out of that.
- Augie1969, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1I'm digging up your comment, though after some thought on the matter it actually might be smart for him to pick her.
- SketchaMPM, on 06/04/2008, -9/+14One of the few candidates that I truly enjoy watching and listening to. What a speech, I seriously had chills.
- brstilson, on 06/04/2008, -11/+31I'll support Clinton if she's on the Obama ticket. Any true Obama supporter should feel the same way. The Republican culture of corruption in Washington and the Iraq War need to end, and McCain is 4 more years of it. Having Hillary in the backseat will not even come CLOSE to being as bad as having McCain in the front seat.
- ThantiK, on 06/04/2008, -1/+10With the "jokes" about obama's assassination, I wouldn't. Sure they were just jokes but think about it...would you REALLY put it past multi-millionaires to at the very least, encourage his death secretly?
- sodade, on 06/04/2008, -0/+7The culture of corruption in Washington ignores all party boundaries. And Hillary has proven that she is not above it. Having her on the ticket takes that whole "change" thing and throws it out the window.
- coolkatz321, on 06/04/2008, -2/+4I think an Obama-Clinton ticket is about as solid as you can get... all the bashing aside, it would bring tons of votes in from other states that otherwise, neither would be getting (Ohio, Florida, Arkansas, VA, etc.)
- amps211, on 06/04/2008, -2/+0If I were Obama I would trust having a power hungry clinton next in line. She's already shown thru out the primaries she'll do just about anything to secure the nomination.
With her already implanting assination in the minds of americans the last thing Obama wants to do is put her next in line for president because eventually they are not going to agree and she's not gonna get her way... then who knows... - Mullinsmcd, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1While the combined ticket is the best way to unite the people within the party, all of the independents and republicans still on the fence will most likely not respond well to this. Its a tough call, but I would say that Obama has a better chance getting a white guy with good foreign policy experience and a connection to working class voters (like Joe Biden).
- brstilson, on 06/05/2008, -0/+1Easiest way for Obama to win states like West Virginia: an Obama/Byrd ticket.
- slyzxx, on 06/04/2008, -12/+7i thought he was actually tired you could tell from his face and speech, my whole family is pro obama and they were all happy as hell. Maccian is on TV right now talking trash about obama already lol he waists no time that old senile fool.
- rezist, on 06/04/2008, -2/+2So you can say stuff like... Hillary should be in the kitch, McCain is old and senile, but how is that CHANGE? That is no different than "talking trash" about someone based on race. As my democratic nominee I'll vote for him, but why is it that I have read nothing but mindless garbage in all of these Obama threads? I think it has been the single most successful mass spam operation in the history of the internet. Only allowed by the recent changes in this website that have absolutely begun to destroy it.
- SynestheticSoul, on 06/04/2008, -17/+4I don't know. The guy deserves a full life. I fear that if he gets voted president he may assassinated.

- nrose101, on 06/04/2008, -11/+21All I can say is I wish January was here and we are swearing in our new president, Barack Obama!
- LEVITE1, on 06/04/2008, -16/+9Barack really represents the best of Christianity, eventhough his name means to Bless and Adore God in Hebrew. When he speaks , its with authority and truth. This speech was nothing less than a representation of a kind, patient yet firm man with knowledge, values and faith within body of Believers. No other candidate demonstrates these characteristics. Now, the others are speaking against the good which Barack offers and you wonder why? I don't. These are war mongrels fighting amongst each other for the wrong reasons here on earth. They fight against equality and peace throughout the world. Obama fights for justice, liberty and freedom everyone. Too me, its obvious what the other wo principalities represent in their high places. Yet, their kingdoms are crumbling down. Barack, O...BA...MA , I thank God for your obedience to serve with honesty and deligence. The purple dress was awesome Michelle and the green tie was symbolic for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear! I will continue to pray for your wisdom and protection over spiritual wickedness....and may the Grace and Peace of God abide within your soul in all you do and say!
- skater4life0880, on 06/04/2008, -2/+1What religion are you apart of? Christianity does not support racism of any kind.

- UknowWho97, on 06/04/2008, -15/+10Even though there are a lot of hurt feelings in the democratic party, I truly believe that once the nation gets a good look at Obama and McCain, side by side, the choice will be clear. One is an extremely talented orator who can seize a crowd and inspire a nation to be more than what it limits itself to. The other is a man who has been a life time presidential candidate, a war hero, and one who will continue the stagnant progress of this nation. After all of the Clinton supporters who say they will vote for McCain in November, once they cool down and get their heads straight, they'll know that too much is at stake for them to throw away their vote in spite of someone who only wants the best for them....hopefully.
- skater4life0880, on 06/04/2008, -4/+1You statements are so untrue. The democratic party will not come together when they see Oboma and McCain side by side. The only way that the democratic party might come together is if Hillary and Oboma join together. There are several democrats who are going to register Republican and vote for McCain just so that Oboma will become president. This is the same situation that would have occurred if Hillary won the nomination. The democratic party is split, and for good reason.
- salinemist, on 06/04/2008, -4/+1Someone should be President because they're a good orator?

I'm going to go change my underwear... - nickert0n, on 06/04/2008, -13/+58To everyone who has these "black president" comments I have something to say to you, this man has defeated all ods not because hes black but because hes the best damn breath of fresh air that America has seen.
He had to be ten times better then his peers just to be considered.
Its kinda like why Eminem (before he sold out) has to be the best damn rapper because hes white other wise if he was of equal talent he would not have made 10 bucks.
People are forced to be the best they can be to pursue their dreams when socieities state they cannot partake due to creed.
So to the people who are down right obsessed with the fact hes black know this, he is ten times better then his peers because he had to be, that's the reason hes the best man for the job.
GO OBAMA YOU CAN DO IT- salinemist, on 06/04/2008, -4/+1http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=16500
- Terrk, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2Or you can strictly vote on party! Forget convictions and beliefs!
- fani, on 06/04/2008, -0/+3Very well said.
- TheKiah, on 06/04/2008, -0/+6I honestly cannot believe you compared Barack Obama to Eminem. My utter contempt for humanity is sealed.

- EricDowner, on 06/04/2008, -14/+6I haven't heard a crowd cheer like that since Halford rejoined the Priest...
- LEVITE1, on 06/04/2008, -17/+7Barack really represents the best of Christianity, eventhough his name means to Bless and Adore God in Hebrew. Obama fights for justice, liberty and freedom for everyone. Too me, its obvious what the other two principalities represent in their high places. Yet, those kingdoms are crumbling down. Barack, O...BA...MA , I thank God for your obedience to serve with honesty and deligence. Michelles purple dress representing royalty was awesome. Barack your green tie was symbolic for new beginnings for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear! I will continue to pray for your wisdom and protection over spiritual wickedness....and may the Grace and Peace of God abide within your soul in all you do and say!

- soot, on 06/04/2008, -11/+24I was there last night! Amazing speech, the seats were packed and the whole building was surging with energy. I'm glad I didn't wimp out and go home when I saw the lines outside..
- coldpockets, on 06/04/2008, -1/+9It's just incredible to have an exciting politician, and not just a lesser of two evils.
- Boarhead, on 07/18/2008, -7/+2DUH!!
- juniorb, on 06/04/2008, -4/+8History on a couple counts:
1. First black president
2. First candidate to purposefully divide her party so completely that half of them end up voting for the other party.
Some of these Clinton supporters, especially the women, would really rather spend 100 years in Iraq and give up a woman's right to choose just so that Obama doesn't win. It frightens me how easily people are divided and conquered; not just physically, but mentally.- chrisaug18, on 06/04/2008, -1/+2Ummm he's not the president
