Another Violation Of McCain's Conflict Of Interest
huffingtonpost.com — Sen. John McCain's new conflict of interest policy may claim another victim. This past month, the Arizona Republican's presidential campaign paid tens of thousands of dollars to a vendor that was simultaneously working on behalf of a independent group attacking Sen. Barack Obama.

- Sogui, on 05/21/2008, -4/+3Ok, other stories aside, where did John McCain, or even his campaign, get caught lying or deceiving here?
They got web services from a company who also services other campaign websites, with a legal firewall in place to prevent communication between the groups.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST: Did McCain's website design have illicit dealings with another conservative website? Did they steal color schemes from each other? Do they both have a similar menu bar? HUFFINGTON POST INVESTIGATES!- dexter411, on 05/22/2008, -0/+2Google has a conflict of interest, too.

But hey this is Digg, nobody is going to hold you accountable. - LukasSmith, on 05/22/2008, -4/+3Hey here is some truth. The Huffington Post is a vendor of Obama Propaganda. Just look at their track record on digg.com. I don't need to prove what digg.com should know is a fact. And some of these Huffington Post articles have been beneath garbage. So another day another load of Obama crap on digg.com. Go figure.

- grlykool, on 05/21/2008, -7/+9We need to attack the swift boaters head on. Let's start digging into their lives.
- SheilaNoya, on 05/21/2008, -9/+17Since Bush has effectively crippled the FEC now, I doubt McCain will ever be penalized for any of his infractions of the rules.
It's clear that this is going to be a dirty fight up until November. The fear & smear tactics of the Republicans work well on the gullible masses, so do your best to quickly debunk the lies and keep everyone informed of the truth. The more times they get caught lying, the less credibility they have.
When people post anti-Obama lies & GOP propaganda here on Digg, don't just bury them. Debunk them first and prove they are lying, THEN hit the "bury" button. Let everyone know who the liars are and who can't be trusted to post factual information.
Some Diggers (like xdcc, a Ron Paul supporter), spend many hours every day submitting every lie and distortion they can find to try and discredit Obama. Don't let them get away with this crap.- verifex, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1I'm not so sure this is going to be a dirty fight. We haven't yet seen either candidate really fighting dirty yet; they risk some of their supporters trust by fighting dirty. We can only hope that both of them keep their head high and try not to get get too buried in the drudgery.
As for the swift-boat PACs themselves, we either need anti-swift-boat PACs, or we need some kind of legislative reform of this oft-abused political machination. - Cyrus042, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1"Since Bush has effectively crippled the FEC now, I doubt McCain will ever be penalized for any of his infractions of the rules."
What rules? This is a campaign policy imposed upon themselves, not a legal rule. Basically the accusation is that the McCain campaign has a conflict of interest because their webprovider also provides service for an anti-Obama website. (The McCain campaign responded by saying that they have a communication firewall in place preventing any communication between the 501c4 and the McCain campaign) The campaign has a new policy disassociating with any current lobbyists and special interests.

- geneikillua, on 05/21/2008, -13/+18Inaccurate and misleading title. This is no violation at all of any law and there's no evidence whatsoever that it violates -McCain's- new ethics policy. His campaign paid for services from a company that provided services to another anti-Obama political group. There's nothing at all, even close to, illegal here. They have had a firewall of communications between this group and the other for over a year and this complies with their new policy. This article mostly insinuates that the author himself has not been given proof that the firewall existed, therefore everything is suspect. This is shoddy journalism and opinion writing.
- MisterChirish, on 05/21/2008, -2/+3I completely agree with you.
I'm not a McCain supporter by any means, but this seems to be a pretty weak argument, and a very quick jump to a very contentious conclusion.
I'm sure if and when McCain really starts trying to damage Obama, he'll be come up with something a little better than "I'm working with the same web services provider as a GOP leaning group that really makes up some good and nasty trash about my opponent".
Obama is inspiring a large proportion of Americans in a way that I don't believe has been seen in my generation. I'm pretty sure he won't be trivializing himself with this kind of crap. I think he'll continue to campaign with the same measure of integrity and passion that we've witnessed the last few months, and he certainly won't need the help of a Huffington Post "journalist" crying wolf everytime McCain picks his nose in public. - ethornquist, on 05/21/2008, -3/+3McCain has an ethics policy? And, yes, geneikillua, this is an unethical move - which may or may not be legal but certainly violates McCain's own policy. At minimum when you are running a political campaign that purports to be as rock-solid as McCain's, you have to be take care who you associate with. And good work McCainiacs, on spamming here. I will join you if you pay me too!!
shoddy journalism = either Huffington or Karl Rove hiding the fact that he's McCain's senior advisor while playing "impartial pundit" on Fox News. What's the difference?
Ron Paul '08. And thanks, McCainiacs. Again - I will join your team and spam spam spam
if I get paid a tenth of what McCain pays Rove.- geneikillua, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1Who says everything posted that's not anti-McCain comes from a McCainiac? I for one really enjoy coming to Digg and reading a lot of the content, but one of my pet peeves is stupidity and inconsistency of thought. Therefore, when I post on digg, as digg is filled with a lot of brainless partisans of an Obama flavor, my posts would tend to suggest I am extremely anti-Obama and pro-McCain. It's not that all Obama supporters are stupid, just a lot on Digg are.
However, if digg were populated with brainless McCainiac posts I'd confront them as well, it's just not the case as much. But I personally have been called both a brown eating Rethuglican nazi on Digg and also a lefty liberturd commy. Apparently some people like to think of themselves and others in terms of belonging to groups and if you don't belong to one group you must belong to the other. What's a thinker to do?

- NoDrama, on 05/21/2008, -0/+10Conflict of interest requires no "law" gene, and that term doesn't appear in the title or the blurb -- this is about the disconnect between McCain's stated policies on the one hand (theory) and the actions taken by his campaign on the other (that infamous gap where "in practice" just doesn't match "in theory.")
Get it? - frenchi, on 05/21/2008, -5/+16title makes no sense. at all.
What is a violation of conflict of interest exactly?- LLamaStar, on 05/21/2008, -5/+1yeah, doesn't make sense. You would think it would be in his interest to attack obama...he's going to be running against him.
this is just more McCain lies imo. - Sogui, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1There isn't any CoI, but hey it got to the front page of Digg and that's all they needed.

OMFG ! So If I bought a hot dog and that hot dog vendor's company killed someone last year. Am I supporting murder?
HOW THE HELL WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW?!
If this is the best you have against Mccain, he has this election won for sure! - DaDrake, on 05/21/2008, -2/+2Yea, this doesn't even violate his own new ethic reform laws. How is hiring a firm... who provides services to multiple people... illegal?
- Sogui, on 05/21/2008, -2/+4The vendor can't work with a 527 or an independent group without a legal "firewall" preventing communications between the two groups.
It's not a 527, and they've verified that there is a legal firewall in place?
So where's the story here?
Oh there is none, just blind speculation about McCain campaign receiving services from the same company who also provides services to another political website.
But hey don't let logic get in the way, in other news I heard www.MCCAIN08.com is on the SAME INTERNET as www.lemonparty.org, is John McCain really an old gay man? HUFFINGTON POST INVESTIGATES!- JointVenture, on 05/21/2008, -0/+2"is on the SAME INTERNET"

- NelsonR, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1Appalachian crackers will vote Republican regardless of Obama or Hillary. Why these crackers who are not of the elite but plain old followers who vote for the elite Republican party confuses even the most inane. Republicans, McCain with all his lobbyist campaign workers, the Keating Five past episode is quite extraordinaire but illiteracy and nationalism makes odd bed fellows.
A vote for McCain and his possible election says all about the intelligence of Americans and Why we are on a downward earned spiral to an impoverished debtor nation. You Republicans with your deficit spending, your wars, your bias's, your hypocrisy and nations hating us is your cornerstone of un patriotic behavior. May you reside in Hell with Bush upon meeting your maker.

- d3mag0gu3, on 05/22/2008, -1/+0You are just another filthy obamascum. You ask why race has to come into the equation. Good work McCainiacs. Good work. - harry8227, on 05/22/2008, -0/+0I wish you people would cut this crap out, if you want to look at conflict of interest, look at the Clintons, remember watergate and stuff like that. To bring it up to data, how about Hillary signing the paper to disallow Michigan to seat people at the convention, and such, then, after that she puts her name on the ballot, then when she needs more votes she turns around and says Michigan should be counted. That right there tells me she will do whatever it takes to benifit herself. Im not saying McCain doesnt do somethings wrong either, THEY ARE POLITICIANS!. what do you expect from them. Please take a look at what they are going to do for the country and get over the Democrat/Republican crap
