This is actually pretty standard practice - but an eye opener nonetheless. - Tangaroa, on 08/16/2008, -2/+5Wait a second. The campaigns are billing the media companies for letting reporters travel with them? "The campaign's goal is to bill every traveler in a timely manner..." This is huge news. Has this ever happened before? It looks like a great way of getting around campaign financing laws, too. Call the donation a fee for service.
- jotate, on 08/17/2008, -0/+6Sounds like the campaign is handling all the travel arrangements on behalf of the reporting staff assigned to follow them and just using direct billing to the reporter's agency. It seems like a pretty efficient way of handling it. $50k per month for food, hotels, cars, flights, etc seems like a reasonable number.
I'm an Obama guy, but I'm not sure this is anything to be upset about. Seems like in the grand scheme of ridiculous ***** McCain does/says, this is a bit of a stretch.- drwaterside, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2This definitely does not fall under the category of ridiculous. I was surprised that reporters were actually charged this much to tag along. Would be curious how much the other campaign charges.
