They will see it, and then can take the machine offline and get it recalibrated. This behavior could be purposeful miscalibration or the lack of initial calibration if machines are set up in a rush to accommodate turnout. Purposeful miscalibration is where the touch-screen rectangle is moved on purpose to overlap the visible rectangle of another candidate.

I remember last time around there were a lot of complaints about these particular machines flipping votes, and it turned out it was random rather than systematically in favor of one candidate or the other.
Beats the hell out of me why they're still using them since they're renowned for sucking, but I just can't get too perturbed about this story in particular. I'm far more worried about the voter purges and other suppression tactics, which I believe have far more potential to sway the election. - Tediel, on 10/25/2008, -0/+1There was a good documentary on LinkTV.org titled "Murder, Spys, and Voting Lies". I just wish it free to watch and not have to be purchased. They have a lot of good info.
