Ecosia is dropping Mistral for open-source AI models, including Chinese options

POLITICO reports that Ecosia is dropping Mistral and partnering with Melious, which hosts open-source and open-weight models including China’s Qwen, GLM and Kimi. Ecosia CEO Christian Kroll cited concerns about Mistral’s quality and recurring technical problems, and said the Melious partnership has roughly halved costs while improving performance. Mistral co-founder Guillaume Lample invited Ecosia to test its new model.
