OpenAI signs Abu Dhabi AI deals across government, energy and investment

State oil company ADNOC announced a partnership with OpenAI and said it would be the first energy firm to deploy OpenAI Frontier. ADNOC said the models would enable it to value “every barrel while it is still in the ground,” according to AFP. In a statement quoted by AFP, ADNOC said OpenAI’s models would combine decades of data from thousands of wells, multiple reservoirs and hundreds of surface facilities with capital, cost and commercial considerations to prepare and optimize oilfield development plans. These are ADNOC’s proposed uses, not demonstrated results. AFP also reported that ADNOC and OpenAI would partner with Emirati AI company G42.

Separately, Bloomberg reported that OpenAI is seeking billions of dollars in funding from UAE state-backed investors.
