India reportedly weighs mandatory imported-coal blending at power plants
The Economic Times, citing sources, says an early-stage proposal would ask thermal power plants to blend up to 5% imported coal with domestic coal to ease a supply crunch.
TLDR
India is considering mandatory blending of up to 5% imported coal with domestic coal at thermal power plants, The Economic Times reports, citing sources. The proposal remains at an early stage. The report says a supply crunch has pushed spot power prices to their highest monthly level since 2022. The measure would reverse the government's push over the past two years to cut coal imports.
