Microsoft reportedly on track to pay Anthropic more than $2 billion annually for Copilot

The Information reports Microsoft is on track to pay Anthropic more than $2 billion annually to power Copilot, even as it increasingly switches to OpenAI models to cut costs and improve margins. It says Microsoft fielded customer complaints in summer 2025 that Copilot was buggy and not good enough at automating work in Excel or PowerPoint.
