India’s food regulator issues notices to BigBasket, Flipkart and Gemini Edibles over alleged misleading oil claims

The Economic Times reports that India’s food regulator asked Gemini Edibles & Fats India, BigBasket operator Innovative Retail Concepts and Flipkart India to explain why action should not be taken over alleged misleading claims for Freedom Cooking Rice Bran Oil. FSSAI said cholesterol and heart-health claims made for the oil are not permitted under its advertising rules. The regulator also said Gemini appeared to lack a valid central licence covering e-commerce activities.
