Japan sells fifth climate transition bond of 2026 despite growing fossil-fuel reliance
Japan will put only 4% of this fiscal year's transition bond proceeds toward making renewable energy a major power source.
TLDR
The 250 billion-yen ($1.6 billion) issue attracted bids worth 3.84 times the amount offered, versus 4.62 in May. Japan remains the only government using the climate transition bond designation, even as its fossil-fuel reliance has increased since the war in Iran began.
