EU prosecutors open second fraud probe into Spain’s high-speed rail
EU prosecutors are examining EU funds for safety, signaling and communications upgrades on the Madrid-Seville high-speed line.
TLDR
The European Public Prosecutor’s Office is investigating possible fraud after the October 28 crash near Urda killed 69 people. Investigators searched rail infrastructure manager Adif, Spain’s rail safety agency and the Court of Auditors. No findings have been made public. A separate investigation opened in March into EU-funded track maintenance on the same line after the Adamuz crash killed 46 people.
