Antigua and Barbuda may phase out its 'golden passport' program under EU pressure
Reuters, citing university director Robinson, reports Antigua's government collected about $58 million from citizenship sales in 2025.
TLDR
Reuters reports Prime Minister Gaston Browne said Antigua would “very likely” commit to phasing out its citizenship-by-investment program. The EU gave Antigua and four other Eastern Caribbean nations until November 12 to agree to close their programs by June 1, 2028. It says the programs pose security risks and that countries keeping them risk losing visa-free Schengen access. Robinson estimates ending Antigua's program would erase more than half its projected 2026 primary surplus.
