Russia’s federal budget is expected to collect about 1 trillion roubles ($11.97 billion) in oil and gas taxes in October, a 10% increase from the same month last year, according to a Reuters calculation. Oil and gas taxes account for roughly one-fifth of the Russian government’s income and help finance its military campaign in Ukraine.
The projection is based on oil and gas production, refinery throughput, and supplies to domestic and international markets. It is an estimate for the month, not an official tally of revenue already collected.
A quarterly tax drives the monthly jump
October’s oil and gas tax receipts are expected to more than double from September, but much of that increase comes from quarterly payments under an additional profit-based tax on oil production.
Even without that payment, Reuters estimates October revenue would be about 164 billion roubles, or 36%, higher than September. The month-to-month increase therefore cannot be attributed only to a change in production or crude prices.
