Oprah-backed True Food Kitchen files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

Bloomberg reports in The Straits Times that True Food Kitchen, which counts Oprah Winfrey among its investors, filed for Chapter 11 on October 4. The chain said it closed a dozen locations and will seek to recapitalize or sell. It cited management turnover and the pandemic’s effects; a company lawyer said a July cyclospora outbreak “also didn’t help.” Remaining restaurants are open, and the chain has lined up a $20 million bankruptcy loan.
