More than 16 lakh small businesses may get an annual GST return option

The Economic Times reports the GST Council has given in-principle approval to a plan that would let more than 16 lakh small businesses selling directly to consumers pay GST quarterly and file one return annually. It says eligible small e-commerce sellers could sell across states without separate registrations. Late filing fees for small taxpayers have been waived, and the reforms set a Rs 10,000 threshold for show-cause notices.
