Neil Sethi NEW account@neilsethinewThe selloff in US semiconductor shares has echoed to Asia where South Korea's Kospi fell over 6% with Samsung Electronics Co. and SK Hynix Inc. shares dropped more than 7% each. "The Kospi is now down a third from the record high it reached in June, and has fallen below its 200-day moving average. Foreigners have accelerated their exit, selling more than $6 billion worth of Kospi shares on a net basis in October." Adding to existing concerns that China’s CXMT Corp. has made progress on a new memory architecture that Samsung and SK Hynix are also working on, Broadcom CEO Hock Tan said many "investors have no clue what they are investing in," and warned that insufficient capital could become the next constraint on the industry’s growth. Tan said AI model developers need to find customers that can generate returns from deploying the technology, rather than relying on users who are now “wasting money” on tokens as they experiment with AI. “When you are a kid you go to a video arcade, you play. Your parents give you $10 of tokens, you finish it in 10 minutes and you haven’t learned anything,” he said. “That’s what happening in enterprises today.”1d

Gennaro@fourweekmbaBroadcom CEO Hock Tan likened many AI investors to casino gamblers — extreme expectations, little grasp of the economics. FT reports the comment landed into a global chip sell-off: Samsung down as much as 8.8%, SK Hynix 9.2%, Micron about 4%. Tan also said most companies still can't find AI ROI and are "wasting money, spending tokens." The people who sell the picks and shovels are now warning that capital, not chips, may be the next bottleneck.21h
