Israel’s election committee votes to bar Ra’am and Joint List from October 2026 election

The Jerusalem Post reports that Israel’s Central Elections Committee voted on September 23, 2026, to bar Ra’am and the Joint List from the October 27 election. Each vote was 18–5, with one abstention. The Attorney-General’s Office said the evidence against both lists fell short of the stringent legal threshold for disqualification. Ra’am chairman Mansour Abbas and the Joint List condemned the decisions as political and anti-democratic. The newspaper says Supreme Court appeals are expected; decisions barring entire candidate lists do not receive automatic court review.
