Instacart to wind down Caper smart-cart development by the second quarter of 2027
Business Insider reports the board-approved wind-down will cost $55 million to $80 million, including employee and contract termination costs.
TLDR
Instacart said it will reinvest savings from winding down its Caper smart-cart development team in “strategic growth initiatives,” Business Insider reports. The carts can weigh produce, track items, apply coupons and take payments. In early 2024, Instacart planned to roll out “thousands” of them; then-CEO Fidji Simo called the carts “the future of grocery shopping.”
