The BLS counted 7.52 million openings, up 333,000 from August and above the 7.15 million consensus forecast.
The BLS also recorded 131,000 more hires and 321,000 more quits than in August. Layoffs and discharges fell by 127,000 to 1.64 million, the lowest since March 2025. The figures came ahead of the October payrolls report scheduled for November 6.
