UK chancellor backs Heathrow’s proposed third runway as a potential growth boost

Sky News reports Chancellor John Healey said the case for a third runway at Heathrow has “always been a case for growth.” Prime Minister Andy Burnham declined to back the plan in September 2026, calling it a matter for Londoners. Heathrow estimates the runway will cost about £33bn, with associated infrastructure bringing the total to £49bn. The government has yet to make a final decision.
