Chinese refiners suspend October fuel exports, tightening global diesel and gasoline markets

Chinese state refiners including PetroChina halted oil product exports for October, prioritizing domestic stocks amid low inventories. The suspension follows Middle East and Russia supply disruptions and occurs during China's Golden Week holiday, with resumption after Oct 7 uncertain.

TLDR

The export halt tightens already strained global fuel markets, particularly diesel, pushing Brent crude higher by roughly 5% in recent reports. Rising fuel prices risk increasing transport costs, airfares, and broader inflationary pressures on consumers and businesses. This compounds existing Middle East and Russian export restrictions.

@NoLimitGainsBREAKING: Chinese refiners have suspended October fuel exports outside Hong Kong and Macau, per Reuters. Beijing is protecting its own supplies. PetroChina has already cancelled gasoline and jet-fuel cargoes. Diesel markets are already tight. This takes more supply away from overseas buyers who still need it. My concern is higher transport costs getting passed down through airfares, deliveries and grocery bills. You don’t have to own a car to feel this… Whether exports restart after October 7 is still unclear. If this drags on, getting inflation under control could become even harder.
