Google will cut off student Search access at K-12 schools that reject AI

Starting in early 2027, Google will turn off AI tools in its K-12 software unless school administrators opt in. Schools that reject AI entirely will also lose students’ access to Google Search. Google says AI and Search are deeply integrated; districts that allow AI can choose between search with AI Overviews and chats or a Guided Learning option designed to guide students step by step.
