U.S. Crypto Clarity Act Fails Senate Cloture; CFTC Signals Agency-Led Rulemaking Ahead
House advances tax bill on transactions, staking and mining after Senate setback.
TLDR
The Senate did not advance the Clarity Act past a cloture vote. CFTC Chair Michael Selig stated the agency is locked in and ready to ship crypto rules using existing authority. The House Ways and Means Committee advanced the Digital Asset Tax Certainty Act in a 38-5 vote. That bill would ease taxes on small crypto transactions, clarify stablecoin treatment, and address mining, staking and wash-sale rules. It still needs a full House vote before moving to the Senate.
