Report
Bank of Japan to more than double annual ETF sales from January 2027
The BOJ's annual sales will rise from ¥330 billion to ¥860 billion on a book-value basis.
TLDR
Nikkei Asia reports the Bank of Japan decided to speed up sales of ETFs amassed during years of aggressive easing. Bloomberg says annual sales will rise from ¥330 billion to ¥860 billion ($5.5 billion) on a book-value basis in January 2027, shortening the estimated time to complete sales from 112 years to about 43. Bloomberg says faster sales could boost payments to the government, potentially helping Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi fund her policy agenda.
