Oklahoma oil company plugs wastewater well near Enid’s water supply
ProPublica and The Frontier report regulators approved the well without a hearing required within a half-mile of public water wells.
TLDR
ProPublica and The Frontier report that the Flying Monkey wastewater well, roughly a quarter-mile from two Enid municipal groundwater sites, was plugged on September 14. A company filing says workers dropped in a cast-iron plug, then added more than 200 sacks of cement. Regulators approved the well in 2018 without the required hearing; two other Enid wells the newsrooms identified as violating the distance rule remain active.
