TLDR

On October 4, a market commentator said Houthis reportedly attacked an Aramco facility in Riyadh and another ship was hit near the Strait of Hormuz. The commentator warned that those incidents, alongside Zelensky’s stated plan to increase attacks on Russian refineries, could drive up oil prices and bond yields and unsettle markets. A separate market digest said Iran continued to keep Hormuz closed and OPEC+ left November quotas unchanged.

@macropaperr🚨 TOMORROW’S MARKET OPEN COULD BE REALLY VOLATILE. And the reason is Oil. In the last 24 hours, the energy situation has gotten worse in several places. Houthis reportedly attacked an Aramco facility in Riyadh, the first such attack there since 2022. The Riyadh refinery processes around 126,000-130,000 barrels per day. Another ship was hit near the Strait of Hormuz, taking the number of incidents there to 9 in just 5 days. Around 20% of global oil consumption passes through Hormuz, and it's still effectively choked since March 2026. Zelensky also said Ukraine plans to increase attacks on Russian refineries. That puts pressure on Saudi refining, Hormuz shipping and Russian fuel supply at the same time. With the oil supply crunch already getting worse, these attacks will further push the prices up, resulting in bond yields spiking and a panic in global markets.1d
