China’s mainland A-share market lost about ¥2.25 trillion in total value on October 15, according to Wind data cited by Huaxia Times and republished by 10jqka. More than 5,100 stocks fell as the main indexes reached their lowest levels of the year.
The report put the market’s total capitalization at roughly ¥105 trillion after the decline. Of all stocks traded, 5,108 finished lower and 430 rose. Twenty-six shares hit their daily downside limit, while 36 reached their upside limit.
Losses spread across the major indexes
The Shanghai Composite closed 1.59% lower at 3,707.48 after briefly falling below 3,675. The Shenzhen Component lost 2.43% to finish at 11,816.79, and the tech-heavy ChiNext dropped 2.92% to 2,783.17, according to closing figures reported by Aju Press.
Trading in Shanghai and Shenzhen totaled about ¥1.65 trillion, nearly ¥220 billion more than the previous session. The CSI 300 fell 1.23%, while the Beijing Stock Exchange’s BSE 50 lost 3.44%.
Inflation and tech worries weighed on sentiment
Reuters reported that technology shares led the decline as stronger-than-expected U.S. inflation revived concern that interest rates could remain higher for longer. At midday, the Shanghai Composite and CSI 300 were both down about 2%, while the STAR 50 had fallen 3% and the ChiNext 3.4%.
