35% of innovative drug investment plans in Japan face cuts, delays or possible relocation
Nikkei Asia reports a government survey of 83 plans found only 37% will proceed as scheduled.
TLDR
Nikkei Asia reports that a Japanese trade ministry survey covered 83 innovative drug investment plans from more than 50 global pharmaceutical companies. Investment in 25% of the plans will be reduced or postponed, 10% could move outside Japan, and the status of 28% was unknown at the time of the poll. The report warns that a retreat from research and manufacturing in Japan could delay patients’ access to new medicines.
