Thailand aims to protect its auto-manufacturing base and spur local production amid an influx of finished cars from China.
A government spokesman confirmed the higher excise tax was on Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s cabinet agenda for November 3. The increase is intended to encourage automakers to produce cars locally.
