Meta reportedly built humanoid prototype Max with China’s Fourier in roughly three months

What changes with Max 2

According to The Information’s reporting, as relayed by Engadget, Meta had been working on Max 2 since September 2026. The second prototype reportedly involves changes to the torso and hands, plus a projector and additional sensors intended to help it handle stairs better. Better stair handling is the purpose of those changes, not a test result described in the article.

The distinction between research and a product also matters here. In a post from The Information, reporter Jyoti Mann described Meta’s position: “Meta is currently just saying this is an internal research and experimentation project. It doesn't have any plans to sell these particular robots.”

That statement concerns these particular robots, not every robot Meta might develop. Engadget’s Nov. 1, 2026, article also reported that no launch date had been set for a mass-market version of Max.
