Xi reportedly calls for qualitative improvement and reasonable quantitative growth in China’s economy

Chinese President Xi Jinping urged effective qualitative improvement and reasonable quantitative growth in the economy in an Oct. 22, 2026, speech, Reuters reported, citing Xinhua. Reuters quoted Xi calling for high-quality development to meet people’s growing needs for a better life while discussing social progress and stability. The report gave no numerical growth target.

Xi also emphasized the Communist Party of China’s “absolute leadership” over the armed forces and advancing the “political building of the military,” Reuters reported, citing Xinhua. Reuters said he mentioned military reform and strengthening through science and technology, talent and lawful governance.
