Kotak Mahindra Bank’s standalone profit rose about 29% in the quarter ended September 2026, beating analyst estimates. Reuters reported profit of ₹42.11 billion, up from ₹32.53 billion a year earlier, against an analyst estimate of ₹41.04 billion based on LSEG data. Separately, Economic Times reported that consolidated profit after tax rose 26% to ₹5,645 crore from ₹4,468 crore a year earlier. The standalone and consolidated figures measure different scopes of the business.
Reuters attributed the higher-than-expected standalone profit to stronger loan demand and lower provisions for bad loans. It reported that domestic loans grew 25% and deposits grew 23%, while funds set aside for potential bad loans and other losses fell 15% to ₹8.04 billion. Economic Times reported that net interest income, the difference between interest earned and interest paid, rose 16% from a year earlier to ₹8,459 crore, citing a bank exchange filing.
There were counterpoints in the quarterly figures. Reuters reported that the net interest margin fell to 4.31% from 4.53% in the preceding quarter, attributing the decline to foreign-currency non-resident deposit mobilisation. The gross non-performing asset ratio fell to 1.04% at September’s end from 1.18% three months earlier. And while provisions were lower than a year earlier, ET Now Swadesh reported they were higher than in the preceding quarter.
