Binance reportedly in talks with Malaysian regulators about a licensed business

A Binance spokesperson told Bloomberg the exchange had been engaging the Securities Commission Malaysia and Bank Negara Malaysia “over the last ten months” about a licensed pathway to offer its products and services. The spokesperson described discussions about the viability and structure of a licensed business but did not specify the type of license sought, according to Bloomberg’s report published by The Straits Times.

That report says the Securities Commission ordered Binance to cease operating in Malaysia in July 2021 after finding it was illegally running a digital asset exchange. The order also called for Binance to stop marketing and restrict Malaysian investors’ access to its Telegram group. The report says the regulator removed Binance from its Investor Alert List in 2024, then added it back in October 2026 without giving a reason. Regulatory approval would provide a route to formally re-enter Malaysia; the discussions Binance describes are not that approval.
