Illegal gold mine collapse reportedly kills 14, injures seven in Colombia

Citing local authorities, Reuters reported 14 dead and seven injured after an illegal gold mine collapsed in rural Nariño, Colombia. Gov. Luis Alfonso Escobar said search and rescue had concluded and urged national agencies to speed up formalization for illegal and small-scale miners to improve working conditions and safety. Reuters also reported 13 deaths in a similar mining accident elsewhere in Nariño in August.
