Vietnam and the four members of the European Free Trade Association signed the agreement in Hanoi on Sunday, Reuters reported. Vietnam’s trade ministry said annual trade with Norway, Switzerland, Iceland and Liechtenstein has averaged $2 billion.
Norway’s tariff phase-in
About half of Norway’s exports to Vietnam will become tariff-free when the pact enters into force, the Norwegian government said. More than 98% will be tariff-free within seven years. Reuters did not report an effective date, and the percentages apply specifically to Norwegian exports to Vietnam.
The long-running negotiations were revived in 2025 amid international tensions over US tariffs and concluded in July 2026, according to Reuters.
What moves between the markets
Vietnam’s trade ministry said the country mainly sells seafood, footwear, textiles, machinery, equipment, electronics and components to EFTA markets. Its imports from the four countries include industrial machinery and equipment, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and raw materials used in production.
