UK ministers award EY contract to assess Tata Steel funding request

Sky News reports ministers awarded EY a contract to assess Tata Steel’s request for more taxpayer funding for an electric arc furnace at Port Talbot. The contract is understood to be worth £1m. Industry sources cited by Sky said the additional request was likely to run to hundreds of millions of pounds, on top of a £500m grant awarded in 2023. Sky reports grid-connection delays have pushed Tata Steel’s expected furnace start to late 2028 or early 2029.
