Novaya Gazeta plans to shut down on November 9 after more than 30 years

Novaya Gazeta announced plans to close on Nov. 9, 2026, after more than three decades, Reuters reported on Oct. 30. The paper accused Russian authorities and security services of forcing it to stop, saying it had lost its office and reader-donation platform. BBC Russia editor Steven Rosenberg reported earlier restrictions on its website and licence. Reuters reported no immediate comment from authorities at the time.
