U.S. Treasury report portrays Iran's economy as crippled by blockade and sanctions
Iran's annual inflation reached 90% in September, compared with roughly 35% in early 2025, Treasury's report says.
TLDR
Axios reports that a Treasury Department assessment attributes Iran's economic crisis to the U.S. naval blockade, sanctions and obstructed overland export routes. The report says the rial has lost roughly a quarter of its value since the pressure campaign began in August and that Iran has not loaded oil onto tankers since August 25. It does not claim Iran's government is close to collapse.
