Ladakh launches saffron-growing pilot on restored desert land
The Economic Times reports that about 90,000 Iranian saffron corms were planted across 4,000 square meters at Spituk Pharka in Leh.
TLDR
The Economic Times reports that Ladakh’s administration has begun a saffron-growing trial on restored barren land in Leh. Water from the restored Igoo–Phey irrigation canal is being channeled across the site, with support from four nearby storage ponds. If successful, the project could create a new income source for local farmers, youth and self-help groups.
