China's factory activity contracts in October for third time in four months

Bloomberg reports that China's official manufacturing purchasing managers' index fell below 50, the threshold separating expansion from contraction. The October reading of 49.3 was below the 49.9 median forecast in its survey of economists. Reuters, via Nikkei Asia, says soft demand for exports and goods at home hurt factory activity.
