Utility bills in Russia rise more than 50% since the war in Ukraine began
Utility bills rose more than 13% in 2026, adding to household costs amid wartime inflation and higher military spending.
TLDR
This year's tariff rise was delayed until October 1, after September's parliamentary elections. Regional authorities then approved some of the steepest increases in years. A Moscow history teacher said her utility bill had climbed by about a quarter since the summer to 12,000 roubles ($150), more than her typical salary advance. The hikes are also straining small businesses and raising concerns about inflation.
