GST Council may consider credits for GST paid on employee insurance at October 7 meeting

The Economic Times, carrying a PTI report, says the GST Council is expected to consider a proposal at its October 7, 2026, meeting to let employers claim input tax credit for GST paid on employee insurance. Group policies currently carry 18% GST, which employers cannot claim as a credit. Sources quoted in the report said the change would make coverage cheaper for employers to provide.
