OpenAI appoints former US Army secretary Dan Driscoll to national security role
Driscoll will advise OpenAI leaders and work with outside partners on how AI can enhance national security and cybersecurity.
TLDR
In the newly created senior counselor role, Driscoll will work with government, industry and academic partners on initiatives for what OpenAI calls “democratic AI.” OpenAI says he will also help its teams understand the needs of national security organizations. Driscoll resigned as Army secretary earlier in 2026 after months of tension with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
